VS.

With the massive number of prepaid MVNOs and carrier options, it’s sometimes hard to keep track of it all and even harder to compare and decide which company is the right one for you. So, every once in a while we’re going to go through and do a Face-off of two popular companies, comparing plans and services to help you better decide. Today, we’ll look at Sprint-owned Boost Mobile, and MVNO Chit Chat Mobile. Both companies, obviously, use Sprint’s network and both have been around for a while. Here’s how they compare:

Plan Prices  Price range? What is included?

Boost Mobile – Plans range from $35 – $55

Boost Mobile has a handful of plans which are constantly changing. All three plans support 4G speeds and include unlimited talk and text. The company offers one day options which are either $2 or $3 depending on if you have a smartphone or basic phone. Daily plans give access to unlimited talk, text and data for one day only, but customers must purchase a Boost phone to use. Check out Boost Plans here.

Chit Chat Mobile – Plans range from $10 – $55

Chit Chat has several plan options which are a little confusing at first. While all plans include unlimited text, half of the plans include unlimited talk while the others include 250 minutes. A few of the plans also include 3 GB of data, which may or may not be LTE depending on the price. Check out Chit Chat Mobile plans here.

Unlimited Talk/Text  Is it offered? What is the lowest price?

Boost Mobile – Yes, the $35 plan has unlimited talk and text and also includes 1 GB of data. Additionally, Boost’s $2 or $3 a day plans have unlimited talk and text.

Chit Chat Mobile – Yes, $20 pre-tax (taxes vary by state). The plan does not include any data.

Data Ranges  What is the most and least data available?

Boost Mobile – At the time of writing, Boost’s data ranges are 1 GB, 5 GB and 10 GB with its “Come to Data” rates. Boost, in the last year, has changed its data options far more frequently than I can count, so this may not be accurate for long. However, out of all of the prepaid carriers, Boost has historically had some of the best data options available. Check Boost’s current plans here.

Chit Chat Mobile – Chit Chat offers 3 GB of data on its plans priced at $40 and up. Two of the plans, the $45 and $55 plans include LTE data, while the others are limited to 3G speeds. Data top-ups are also available, but are a little expensive. Data top ups expire 30 days from activation and have their own expiration date.

Pay-As-You-Go Rates  What are the pay-as-you-go per minute rates?

Boost Mobile – Boost does not offer a pay-as-you-go option. It does, however, have a $3 per day rate for smartphones which includes unlimited talk, text and data.

Chit Chat Mobile – Chit Chat does not offer pay-as-you-go. All plans are monthly.

International Calling  What options are available? What does it cost?

Boost Mobile – Boost Mobile has several international calling add-ons including a $5 unlimited talk and text to Canada/Mexico for users on the top two plans. The other international calling option is a $10/month add-on and includes unlimited calling to 70+ countries and minutes to call landlines in Mexico and the Dominican republic. Boost Also offers a $3/90 day international minute bundle which may only be used with one country of your choice. Read more about International Offerings here.

Chit Chat Mobile – International calling is supported and costs an additional fee per minute, which is charged depending on the country dialed. Calling internationally works essentially the same as using an international calling card and requires dialing a long access number. Customers must have balances on their accounts to dial internationally. Read more about international calling here or check rates.

Activation Fees  How much do they cost?

Boost Mobile – No fee

Chit Chat Mobile – $15 per device

BYOD  Can you activate your own device?

Boost Mobile – Technically, yes, but only select Sprint phones are allowed. However, Boost does not guarantee everything will work properly, and many customers report MMS issues.

Chit Chat Mobile – Yes, provided you have a compatible device.

Network/Coverage  What network does it use?

Boost Mobile – Sprint | Coverage Map
