Leap rolls out network in Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin

double its covered population by 2009. The parent company of Cricket wireless announced the launch of their network in the greater Milwaukee and Madison markets in Wisconsin. This adds another 2.4 million POPs to their coverage area, bringing their total to 64.1 million. They’re still shooting for 120 million by the end of next year. The story at Cricket, though, is still the expanded roaming network, made possible by a pact with 14 different wireless carriers.

“Launching service in southern Wisconsin is our first step toward building a significant Cricket footprint in the upper Midwest, which will ultimately include coverage stretching from Milwaukee to Chicago, a market that is scheduled to launch in the first half of next year,” said Doug Hutcheson, Leap’s president and CEO. “We are pleased to provide residents with a contract-free, no-credit-check wireless service, as well as create more than 200 new jobs in the market. We believe that people will see the extraordinary value in both our wireless voice and broadband service offerings.”
Cricket’s broadband service will also be available to residents in these markets. It appears that their new PAYgo pay per day service will not be available in this area, though.]]>
