MetroPCS to launch AWS in Louisiana

by the second quarter of next year, MetroPCS is planning a new launch next week. Starting June 17, next Tuesday, service will be available in Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana. The company will have 15 outlets in the area, nine of which will be able to handle technical issues and handset exchanges. They expect that number to grow to 20 and 11 within four months. Metro also announced that they’re working on covered along Interstate 20, headed to and from Dallas. They hope to complete the project in the next 120 days. Combined with the new Louisiana market, Metro will be available to an additional 600,000 people. Other cities included in the upgrade are Greenwood, Elm Grove, Princeton, and Minden in Louisiana, and Kilgore and Tyler in Texas. The Texas and Louisiana markets won’t exactly be compatible, though. Those in Texas still have the PCS network, and their phones will not operate in AWS markets…yet. Metro is working on a compatibility upgrade. AWS handsets are backwards compatible and will work on the PCS network.]]>
