Essential Holiday Travel Apps

Christmas is only a day away, and thousands of people will be traveling down the road or across the country to be with loved ones during the next few days. While you’re packing your suitcase and getting your tickets and routes ready, don’t forget to download some of these apps to make your holiday travel simpler:
  1. Gas Buddy – If you are hitting the road this Christmas, this handy app will help you figure out exactly how much you need to budget for gas. While prices are cheaper this year than they have been in a long time, it can still vary pretty widely state to state.
  2. MapsWithMe – You’ll have to download this app head of time, but it is one of my favorite navigational aids. It will help give you routes when online, much like Google Maps, but also works like a digital atlas (which means you have to know how to read a map) when offline. Personally, with as patchy as my network can be in rural areas, the offline capability makes this one of my favorite apps.
  3. Hotel App – There are literally dozens of hotel apps available to help you find and book hotels, and a lot of hotel chains will have their own app. If you have a favorite hotel, check and see if they have an app to locate a nearby location. Otherwise, download something like the app Hotel Tonight.
  4. Travel App – If you don’t like having to go through several different apps, why not try one of the many travel apps to help you find restaurants, cool locations and more on your trip? Trip Advisor will help you find restaurants and keep track of your flights.
  5. Games – Games can be really helpful for keeping the kids entertained during long road trips. Both app stores have TONS of choices for apps, so grab a couple to preserve your sanity on the road!
  6. Christmas apps – There are a surprising amount of Christmas themed apps that are great for the holiday season. Download an app with Christmas Hymns or brush up on your Christmas facts. Check out this list of the best Christmas apps!

I would also recommend Spyglass – it’s a great navigational toolkit for different purposes. It’s top-notch for off-road and on-road navigation, hiking and traveling. It’s crammed with all that necessary data like gps coordinates, current azimuth, altitude, speed, potential arrival time to your target and much more. It can read pre-downloaded maps later when offline and provides you with extremely precise information. https://itunes.apple.com/app/spyglass/id332639548?mt=8&at=11lLc7&ct=c
