Prepaid plans and phones are all about freedom and low prices. It’s pretty common to see prepaid phones include some kind of Wifi calling, and many companies provide wifi only plans for customers who don’t need to connect away from wifi. Of course, those plans tend to be a little limiting. What if you’re traveling cross-country? What if you are out for a day on the town and need to call someone? Well, rather than driving all over trying to find a free wifi hotspot, WifiMapper is designed to help users keep track and find new hotspots. This free app uses crowdsourcing to locate free Wifi locations on a map. With a quick search and a few taps, you can look at all of the available wifi locations in your area, including information about the venue. There are currently around 650 million wifi hotspots mapped around the world. And if your city isn’t mapped, then you can drop pins on locations around town for future reference. Originally launched only for iPhones, WifiMapper recently expanded to Android via the Google Play Store. You can download the application for Android or iPhone devices for free and start searching for trusted wifi locations immediately. An app like this would work perfectly with one of the many excellent free wifi calling and texting apps for consumers who really only need a phone once in a while. After all, why pay for a costly monthly bills when there are probably dozens (if not more) wifi locations nearby?]]>
