Verizon named one of best places to work for IT professionals

Man, Verizon seems to be working hard to keep people happy. Not just its subscribers — though we do appreciate their efforts to stop those Spanish-language recordings from calling our cell phones and eating our minutes. Yesterday, Computerworld named Verizon as one of the best places to work in Information Technology. So they’re looking out for their subscribers and their employees. Or they just have a really good PR team. We think it’s a combination of both. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Computerworld has bestowed this honor upon Verizon. They even moved up in the ranks this year, moving from 18th to 14th. The results are based on a “comprehensive questionnaire” that covers just about every aspect of employment: benefits, diversity, career development, training, and retention. IT workers are also surveyed to get their take on the company. So it’s not just what is offered to employees, but the environment in which they work, too, that determines this ranking.

“The recipients of this year’s Best Places to Work stand out because they are united by a common theme – they understand the importance of IT, and recognize the value these IT professionals bring to the workplace on a daily basis,” said Don Tennant, editor in chief, Computerworld. “Once again, we found that IT professionals are looking for rewarding and challenging projects, access to leading-edge technologies, career growth and development and a comfortable work/life balance. Our Best Places companies not only offer these benefits, but do so in a manner that goes well above industry norms.”
Well played, Verizon. You may be second to AT&T in number of subscribers, but you seem to be No. 1 in your treatment of said subscribers — and the people who make your network, well, work. [TechLinks]]]>
