Microsoft Promises Flagship Phone in October
September 27, 2015/
You might remember in July when the company did some major refocusing and we all wondered if it signaled the end of Lumia devices? Well, according to an article by FierceWireless, it looks like Windows isn’t quite ready to completely bow out of the smartphone market. In fact, Lumia fans might soon be getting the flagship that everyone has been asking for.
FierceWireless and the Verge have been reporting that Microsoft has been sending out invites to a press event on October 6, during which the company should be debuting its first Windows Phone flagships, the Lumia 950 and 950XL. There have been several leaks of varying credibility about these devices, and if any of them are right the devices could be exactly what Windows needs to revive its struggling platform.
I’m not going to parrot the expected specs, as it’s mostly just hearsay at this point. However, it is probably safe to say that the phone will come with a pretty sweet camera, a faster processor than the current budget devices, and a larger battery. I’m also hoping for at least 3 GB of RAM and a microSD slot to go along with the new Windows 10 Mobile build, and several places have reported those things should be included as well.
Windows’ refocusing efforts seem to be going pretty well, and the first reports from the new Windows 10 operating system have been mostly good. If Microsoft can pull off a really nice flagship that will sync beautifully with the millions of PCs that are already sitting in everyone’s living room then I could honestly see the Lumia devices actually becoming relevant.
Personally, I’ve never actually owned a Windows phone, although I’ve considered it several times. All of the people I know with them are huge fans, but I am something of a smartphone snob and I just couldn’t get over the midrange capabilities and the lack of apps.
So, tell me, Windows fans: would you buy a flagship Windows device?]]>
