U.S. Cellular to sponsor Milwaukee Brewers
partnered with the Yankees to combat domestic violence. The story today involves U.S. Cellular , who will sponsor the Milwaukee Brewers, becoming the exclusive wireless provider for the team. Of course, the players themselves won’t be switching wireless companies, but you can be sure to see plenty of advertising around Miller Park this year. The deal calls for “signage in an around Miller Park.” Yes, you’ll see some billboards in the outfield, and apparently some at the Miller Park Interstate 94 message Center. And, of course, there will be kiosk set up. I’ve never been to Miller Park, but since it’s one of the newer parks in the majors, I figure that there are all sorts of vendors around the stadium. (I’m used to Yankee Stadium, which is pretty bare bones in that regard.) As the team’s official wireless sponsor, you can bet that all calls to the bullpen will be sponsored by U.S. Cellular. “And here comes manager Ned Yost. He’s going to his setup man, righty Derek Turnbow. This call to the bullpen brought to you by U.S. Cellular. [Insert tag line here.]” The strange part about this deal is that U.S. Cellular already has a sponsorship in baseball. Their name is plastered on the former Comiskey Park as U.S. Cellular Field, known to baseball fans as “The Cell.” (And for a bit of baseball history, Comiskey Park was built in 1910, and was demolished after 1990, the White Sox’s final season in the old park. The new park was originally named Comiskey Park, but was named U.S. Cellular field in 2003, just in time for the All-Star Game being held there.) [The Business Journal of Milwaukee]]]>
