About the Virgin Mobile referral program
prepaid phone carriers, don’t have referral programs in place. They’re win-win. The customer gets a reward for bringing someone else into the fold, providing them with motivation to do so. The company obviously gets business, possibly business they wouldn’t have had otherwise. When you’re dealing with a service-oriented industry like cellular, that can translate into hundreds, even thousands of dollars over the course of time. On Friday, Ian detailed changes to Virgin Mobile’s Kickbacks program. Since we’ve never really talked about this program before, let’s forget the changes and talk about what it is now. With Virgin, you can refer up to 100 people per year. I’m not sure how many users refer 100 other people per year, but Virgin had to have a reason in mind when it came up with that number. Once your referral activates their line and adds $20, you get 60 free minutes, as does your friend. This works out great for the economical prepaid user. If you take full advantage of Virgin’s SugarMama program, you can get 75 minutes per month. Add one referral to that, and that’s 135 free minutes per month. It might not cover all of your activity, but it sure doesn’t hurt your monthly phone expenditures. You might be asking at this point: How can I get one referral per month? I don’t know 12 people who want to switch to Virgin. If you know how to get the word out on the Internet, that’s not a problem. Much like Sprint’s SERO, you can post your referral code anywhere. That means forums, comments, your own blog…anything goes. If you can promote it well, you can get a referral a month, or even more. Hey, if they’re offering it, why not take advantage to the fullest? Virgin media in the UK does a £30 refer a friend deal for both the referrer and the friend. Not a bad deal. There’s a website you can go to to get matched up – http://www.refermehappy.com
