Create your own mobile content with Virgin
If there’s one thing we love, it’s admiring the work of talented amateur artists. For an example (and please don’t judge us), we have two tattoos, both drawn by artists we knew. There’s just something about untapped talent. Now Virgin Mobile is looking to expose this talent to the cell phone carrying world. Studio V is the service, and it allows users to create original wallpapers and ringtones for the masses. Or they can create their own private collection. Either way, this is a great service that can help some artists gain a inkling more exposure. No, it’s not going to get you a record deal or a display in the Louvre. But you can spread your music and art to the world (or, at least, the world of Virgin Mobile subscribers). Just upload your art to the Studio V website, which is free to join, and watch as others browse and download your content. And you’ll be paid, too! Ah, but don’t let that exclamation mark get you too excited. As with anything in the field of art, the artist reaps the least. You get 10 cents for each item of yours that is downloaded. The problem is that it costs $2 to download a wallpaper and $2.50 to download a ringtone. We don’t like the percentage going back to the creator. But hey, whatcha gonna do?
“Our customer are some of the most creative and prolific people around, so this Studio V exclusive application is deal for them to customize mobile content as well as connection with the larger mobile community, along with the added benefit of earning cash towards their Virgin Mobile account,” said Dom Tolli, VP of mobile data services for Virgin Mobile USA. “The ability to upload and share creations is another step in our effort to expand peer-to-peer connections with user-generated content within social networks.”We know it’s a PR pitch, but we doubt that somehow the most “creative and prolific people around” just so happen to subscribe to Virgin. But why not give it a shot if you’re a subscriber? Surely it’s better than having the same ringtone as all the rest of your friends. [RCR Wireless News]]]>
Unfortunately, you cannot upload your own ringtones, you have to “create” them from clips they supply.
I can not log in and I want to buy a game. How come?
