Virgin in spat with operators of Sugar Mama?
acquisition of Virgin Mobile yesterday morning came as quite a shock. Yet it wasn’t the only Virgin-related news that was slated for the day. In a report filed in the wee hours, Rafat Ali of mocoNews.net noted that Virgin was ready to file suit against Ultramercial, operator of Sugar Mama. For those who don’t remember, Sugar Mama was a program which allowed users to view ads and fill out surveys in exchange for free minutes. Virgin ended Sugar Mama earlier this month. So what happened to this? Ali’s new media projects, which includes paidcontent.org in addition to mocoNews, have gained credibility over the years, so it’s tough to doubt the report out of hand. Could it have gotten lost in the fray of the acquisition? That’s what I think is most likely. After all, the report was filed at 3:41 a.m., and the acquisition news hit the site just four and a half hours later. It’s easy to understand why more details were not available yesterday. Should we expect to hear more of this, or will the Sprint acquisition mean the issue is dropped? I’m not sure. But I’m sure that some Virgin customers who miss their Sugar Mama will want to know.]]>
