Consumer reminder: You're being charged to check your voicemail
This is true of the top three cell carriers in the country — Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint (and probably T-Mobile, too) — and thus likely their MVNOs. This is especially a problem with prepaid, as people often forget to budget their voicemail air time when figuring out how many minutes they need to purchase. The easy solution is to retrieve your voicemails from a landline. Problem is, we’re not always near a landline — and some of us don’t even have one at home. So we’re stuck wasting five minutes of airtime while Aunt Trudy babbles about some fancy party she’s throwing next week. This isn’t something that’s likely to change, so it’s best to find a way to cope with it rather than complaining. However, it does make your 200-minute overage last month a bit more understandable.
