Myspace on your cell phone
Facebook have made it possible to catch up with old pals, forge new relationships, and find people with similar interests. Some users border on the obsessive, updating their pages multiple times daily. They’re not always in front of a computer, though, so how can they update on the go? MySpace has a solution: its new — free — mobile site: mobile.myspace.com. They had offered their services before, but on a pay basis. Clearly, no one was interested in that. Why pay for something that’s otherwise free? So, in an effort to spread their network through the mobile world, MySpace, which is owned by NewsCorp, developed an ad-subsidized mobile site that affords users many of the functions they enjoy from their computers. You can comment, post bulletins, search for friends, exchange messages, accept or decline friends requests, or even change your mood status. You can’t, however, upload pictures, which to us seems kind of silly. We’re hoping that they’re working on this one, since it makes complete sense for you to be able to snap a picture with your phone and upload it to MySpace. Then again, companies like Verizon make good money from MMS messages, and might be opposed to this circumventing of their system. Us? We think it’s a bit overboard. But apparently there’s a market for it, so it’s nice to see that market fulfilled for free. [San Francisco Chronicle]]]>
