Leap announces launch of AWS network
outdone by MetroPCS, Leap Wireless has announced that the Cricket AWS network will be launching in Oklahoma City on April 8. This gives Cricket a network coverage of 55.1 million, of which they’ve tapped over 3 million. “With the launch of Oklahoma City, we are entering what we believe to be another major growth phase for our business,” said Doug Hutcheson, president and chief executive officer at Leap. “The AWS spectrum that we acquired in 2006 from the FCC enables us to again double the size of our Cricket footprint and covered POPs. By launching in Oklahoma City, we are bringing Cricket to a whole new group of people whom we believe will greatly benefit from our high-value unlimited wireless services. Plus, we are launching with several new AWS handsets and a data device, which we believe will appeal to a wide variety of customers.” Cricket has also announced the availability of a USB modem, which will operate on the PCS and cellular bands. It’ll set you back $99, with the service plan costing $35 per month with a voice plan through Cricket, or $40 per month a la carte. We plan on talking with Cricket over the next couple of days, so check back early and often.]]>
