Leap improves year-over-year in Q3

Cricket, losing money. That’s one way to look at the issue. The other is to see that they made huge strides in 2011, producing considerably better results than their third quarter in 2011. To wit, they added just 10,000 subscribers, but they lost 200,000 in this period last year. They also reduced churn to 3.8 percent from 5.5 percent. Churn is a key element of any prepaid carrier, and Leap’s reduced churn means a lot for their prospects.   At the same time, Leap made an important announcement regarding its future.   Later this year Leap will launch its first LTE test market in Tuscon, Arizona. They’ll continue to build from there, and expect to cover 25 million people by the end of 2012. They should have two-thirds of their existing customers covered sometime in 2014.
