Leap settles patent lawsuit
February 25, 2008/
was a Kats target last year, and as expected that suit settled. Leap Wireless is the latest to go to court, and they settled the case over the weekend. Do me a favor. Go click that link to the Tracfone suit. Okay. Now here’s the link to the Leap settlement article. Now:
The patents held by Ronald A. Katz Technology Licensing, L.P. cover a wide range of interactive technology including automated forms of: customer service, prescription refill services, securities trading, merchandising, prepaid services, telephone conferences, registration, home shopping, as well as functions involved in securing information from databases by telephone, interactive cable transactions, and various other uses of toll free and local numbers. And then:
Ronald A. Katz stated, “We welcome Leap Wireless International to the large number of leading telecommunications companies who have purchased license rights under this portfolio.”So yeah, we’ve all been handed a form letter. But it appears that Katz does hold the cards as far as voice applications go. He has pretty much every cell phone company signed up for a licensing agreement, including Verizon and AT&T. ]]>
