Bricked iPhones up and running…for now
First we hear that a class action suit is being filed over Apple bricking hacked iPhones. Now we’re hearing that those lovable hackers are back at it, and have found a way to restore bricked iPhones. So now you can go back to running your third-party applications and — maybe — using it on T-Mobile’s network (or overseas). We’re sure this will have little effect on the lawsuit; people still had to spend valuable time to restore the phones that they spent good money on. However, it is a victory for hacked iPhone users everywhere, as they can go back to using their phones as normal. Too bad it doesn’t come without a catch. This hack doesn’t prevent future firmware updates from re-bricking iPhones. Yes, so when Apple comes out with v1.1.2, which could be in a month if they so chose, hacked iPhone users will once again be stuck with a paperweight. Thankfully, we have merciless hackers who will stop at nothing to re-unlock the phone. See how much trouble phone locking causes? People are wasting so much time trying to protect their devices, while others are wasting their time trying to bring them back to life. It all seems pointless. Couldn’t those programming hours go to better use? [Engadget]]]>
