iPhone Daily: Please, stop confusing us with prepaid rumors
Yesterday, we found out that the iPhone will not be offered to prepaid subscribers. This, of course, bummed us out. We were very much looking forward to seeing the gadget being offered with the GoPhone Pick Your Plan service, so long as you committed to two years of the $20/month data service. Although AT&T’s FAQ may say otherwise, there is still hope for prepaid users. Only problem: you gotta be in the financial toilet for it to happen. Here’s the deal: You go into the store and the AT&T or Apple employee runs a credit check (this can also be done when you get home through iTunes, but you’ll be pressed to have it done at the store). If you fail the credit check, the option will appear to activate it as a Go Phone. Of course, it’s a double-edged sword. It’s very desirable to have the iPhone on a prepaid plan, because no one likes contracts. However, no one also likes to fail a credit check. Where prepaid was once a haven for the credit-less, it is now a more universal way to obtain a cell phone. So it’s not like everyone who wants the iPhone on a GoPhone plan is going to automatically fail a check. But we digress. Might as well give it a whirl. Then again, we type this mid-morning, when there are likely lines around the block at your local Apple and AT&T stores. In fact, we plan to head to the mall later this afternoon and take pictures of any lines for the iPhone. However, we will avoid doing the stupid “so, why do you want an iPhone so badly” interviews. Those are insufferable. [Boy Genius Report] via [Ars Technica]]]>
