MetroPCS extends Philadelphia network to Jersey

MetroPCS’s announcement of extended coverage to the Jersey Shore might not seem like big news, but the expansion certainly extends Metro’s reach. In addition to the Greater Philadelphia area, Metro’s network will now cover Cumberland, Cape May, and Atlanic counties, New Jersey. This will go live on May 22, which is the kick-off of Memorial Day Weekend, a landmark event for the Jersey Shore. The issue for Metro now is working on how to get their network to function up and down the Jersey Turnpike. They have South Jersey covered with this new network, and a sliver of North Jersey covered with their New York network. Perhaps if they could get some contiguous coverage through New Jersey, the nation’s most densely-populated state, they could make further strides in a nationwide coverage scheme.

“The South Jersey Shore expansion marks the continuation of MetroPCS’ development across the Greater Philadelphia area, creating a larger coverage area and convenient store locations for both residents and South Jersey Shore visitors alike,” said John Shelton, vice president and general manager, MetroPCS Philadelphia. “This expansion of MetroPCS coverage and store locations will put summer beach goers at ease, as they can travel to and from the Greater Philadelphia area and South Jersey Shore and continue to receive MetroPCS wireless service.”
