The popularity of tablets might seem like it’s waning, but MetroPCS and T-Mobile are attempting to rekindle the fire with an affordable new tablet and three new data plans designed specifically for tablets. Launched on Friday, the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 is available for $150 in stores only and will work as a wonderful entry into the world of small tablets.

Tablet Details

The Alcatel Onetouch Pop 7 has been available for T-Mobile postpaid customers for a couple months and boasts pretty standard low-end features for a tablet. Here are the specs I found:
  • Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean)
  • 7 inch multi-touch screen
  • 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS
  • Dual-core 1.3 GHz processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 8 GB memory
  • micro SD card slot
  • 2 MP camera
The reviews of this tablet are mostly positive, although the screen resolution is a little poor by all accounts. However, for a tablet at this price, it is most certainly a functional choice.

Tablet Data Plans

With the release of this prepaid tablet, MetroPCS debuted three new data plans for tablets and a promotion where current customers can get a $5 discount to your current service when you add a tablet to your plan. Here are the undiscounted options:
  • $15/month – unlimited low speed  first 1 GB high speed
  • $25/month – unlimited low speed data; first 3 GB high speed
  • $35/month – unlimited low speed data; first 5 GB high speed
Additional services for your tablet are available such as handset protection, data top up for heavy data months, mobile hotspot abilities, international texting and Lookout Mobile Security to protect your identity and passwords. For more information click here.]]>
