MetroPCS continues adding customers

MetroPCS has revealed some of their subscriber numbers. Perfect. That’s what we’re interested in, anyway. So, for starters, they had a healthy number of gross subscribers, at roughly 793,000. That would have brought them over the five million mark, except for that nasty little number we call churn. That was 4.5 percent, a 0.3 percent reduction from the second quarter of 2007, but a 0.5 percent increase from the first quarter. That, however, can be chalked up to seasonal patterns. So when the dust cleared, Metro ended up with 184,000 more customers. Over the past year, they’ve seen a 30 percent growth in customers, which is nothing but a positive for a smaller, regional cell provider. Metro has done particularly well in their expansion markets. As expected, growth is far exceeding its core markets, especially over the past three months, when they introduced a number of AWS markets. Here’s what Roger D. Lindquist, Metro’s Chairman, President, and CEO, has to say:

“At the end of the second quarter, our consolidated subscriber base was approximately 4.6 million. While the U.S. economy shows signs of continued deterioration, we are very pleased by our second quarter subscriber growth. We continue to believe that our predictable, affordable and flexible service offerings differentiate us from the competition and that our unique business model positions us well to capitalize on the increasing trend of wireline replacement. We continue to expand our service footprint with the recent launches of service in Philadelphia, Shreveport/Bossier City, Jacksonville and Bakersfield, and we are excited about the potential opportunities from our planned future service launches in Boston and New York.”
Metro figures to see even further growth in the third quarter, as they are now open for business in Philadelphia.]]>
