MetroPCS introduces three LTE plans

MetroPCS became the first carrier in America to introduce dedicated LTE smartphone plans. Previously MetroPCS used its $55 plan as an LTE holdover, but now they have plans dedicated to their 4G tier. They are for $40, $50, and $60, and each provides a different level of service that can be of use to different types of users. The $40 plan provides the basics: unlimited talk, text, and LTE browsing. This includes unlimited YouTube access. The $50 plan adds a bunch of extras, such as MetroNAGIVATOR, instant messaging, corporate email, and MetroSTUDIO (via WiFi only). The $60 plan adds the all-important unlimited data. Basically, these plans make clear the delineation between unlimited browsing and unlimited data. We can find data in all sorts — downloads, streams, etc. But browsing is just going from web page to web page. This is going to be clear with LTE. I’m sure there will be handsets that will be more geared towards the lower tiers, while the higher end Android smartphones will play to the $60 tier. While the plans might not make a whole lot of difference now — there’s really no reason to get the $60 plan, for example, until we see some higher end handsets — the announcement of LTE plans does signal that MetroPCS is nearing the release of better handsets. With the Consumer Electronics Show starting later this week, we should hear something soon. You can get more information about the plans at MetroPCS’s website.]]>
