Truphone Seeking to Lose MVNO Label
article, CTO and founder of Truphone, James Tagg stated that, “the company doesn’t like to be pigeon holed into the MVNO bucket [because] the term immediately conjures in the mind…the marketplace as a technology-free company.” Fair enough. He also said that, “critics might define an MVNO as a pure branding and marketing machine that sells services to customers.” And that isn’t quite in line with where Truphone wants to be. Of course, for Truphone to get out from under the MVNO category, they would have to own and operate their own core network and services. The move to join GSMA is a good step and means that the company and its products are all compliant with GSMA standards and ready to be open and start moving in a new direction. What that direction is seems a little unclear. More light might be shed on Aug. 13, when Tagg is scheduled to give a presentation at the upcoming ITEXPO event titled “The Un-Wireless Unlicensed LTE.” It will be interesting to see where it goes.]]>
