PTel Updates $20 Plan with Data

PTel Mobile, formerly PlatinumTel, has changed their lowest priced unlimited plan to include data. The $20 plan, which formerly only included unlimited talk and text, now also includes 150 MB of 3G/4G data with the plan. With this change, all of the unlimited plans they offer include some amount of data. The next tier price, at $25, includes unlimited 2G data. While 150 MB doesn’t sound like much, it will allow consumers who use wifi most of the time to be able to use their phone in situations where wifi isn’t avilable. It will also allow users to access MMS messages, which require data. Interestingly enough, there is a note on the plan page that users on the $20 plan will not be charged a per-use for MMS. Instead, as long as they have a positive data balance, they will be able to send and view MMS from their phones. 150 MB would also allow a user to view a few web pages, upload some pictures to Facebook, watch a YouTube video and a host of other small things while away from WiFi. For an idea of what you can do with 1 GB vs 1 MB, check out this article about data usage. Other unlimited plans include 500 MB for $34, 2 GB for $50 or 4 GB for 65. With the exception of the $20 plan, all unlimited plans include unlimited 2G data. PTel Mobile also offers pay-as-you-go plans and international minutes. This $20 plan ups the data over the Ultra Mobile $19+Fees by 50mb. This will be a very popular plan for those of us who are data misers.
