TracFone Cuts Data Prices
July 27, 2015/
Data is undoubtedly the most expensive part of any phone plan and, of course, it’s also the one that most people want. In the prepaid market especially, it’s nothing to see rates as high as $0.10 per MB (which translates to more than $100 per GB) when using any kind of bucket or pay-as-you-go prepaid plan. But, if you’re not a huge fan of the monthly unlimited option for data, then TracFone might be worth a second look.
New data prices showed up on TracFone’s refill site recently with data prices that are insanely low: around $0.01 per MB or roughly $12.50 per GB. Compare that to the $100 that other companies are paying, and I don’t think I need to explain any further.
Here are data top-up options that TracFone is currently offering on its website and in Walmart stores:
- $10 – 300 MB
- $20 – 750 MB
- $30 – 2 GB (was $50)
- $50 – 4 GB (new)

Tracfone does not require top up every 90 days. I have added time in 12 month increments until my line does not expire until 2021.
Good point. I suppose Tracfone does have a couple year-long top-up expirations. I’ve reworded the article to clarify that most top-ups are only good for 90 days. Thanks for commenting!
