Top 5 Prepaid Phones of 2014

1. Motorola Moto G

This phone is the midrange in the Moto line, with X being a step up and E a step down. All three are very solid handsets that anyone–prepaid or not–should be proud to have in their pocket, but the Moto G takes the cake with excellent pricing, fun customization, solid hardware and an overall pleasing look and experience. It’s also available through most carriers, making it extremely popular.

2. Galaxy S4

This year saw the release of the Galaxy S5, which means that 2014’s flagship, the S4, has not only dropped in price but is more readily available. Despite being a year old, this phone is a solid device with a far more palatable price for the prepaid sector and is definitely one of the best phones you can get for a prepaid plan.

3. iPhone 5

Of course, you have to have an iPhone on the list, and the iPhone 5 is still an extremely popular phone and a great value. The price has been reduced some with the release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but the hardware is still worth the money for Apple fans. Also, because the phone is a year old, almost all MVNOs can activate it, which is a bonus.

4. Lumia 830

I wouldn’t feel right doing a lineup without a Windows phone in the mix, because while they don’t enjoy even half the popularity of Apple or Android, the Windows phones are still pretty solid, and the 830 is an excellent choice. The phone has a really impressive camera, good user interface and great hardware.

5. Sharp AQUOS Crystal

This phone is probably one of the most interesting phones released for the prepaid market this year. With a huge screen, it is not only eye-catching but also has some pretty decent hardware and a good user experience. Unfortunately, it’s only available through Sprint and their MVNOs for the moment, which almost knocked it off my list. But, it’s such an unusual phone, I just couldn’t resist.

This year saw a lot of great phones, and I can’t wait to see what 2015 brings. What are you top picks for the best prepaid phones this year? Let me know in the comments!  ]]>
