Earth Tones Prepaid Cell Phones Review

Overview
Earth Tones is an MVNO of the AT&T network. They offer wireless services, and donate all profits to grassroots environmental organizations.
While the majority of markets have switched to Verizon, there are still a number of markets in which Alltel still operates. This includes their prepaid service.
Pros: The higher commitment plans can get very cheap, with the cheapest being near 7 cents per minute.
Cons: The lower-end rates can be very expensive, and their true pay-as-you-go is one of the highest we've seen at 25 cents per minute plus 10 dollars per month. Rates don't drop to 10 cents per minute until you get to a $35 per month commitment.

this is the worst service. My phone broke in one month of buying it. The person at best buy told me that it is the worst phone company out there so you get the worst””

I've had Earth Tones for nearly 2 years. I mainly use the phone to text, and never use up the 100 minutes talk time in my plan. To those who fit this user profile, I strongly recommend this company, mostly for the superb customer service. Every time I call the customer service, I right away talk to a real person who answers my questions or resolves issues appropriately. This operation is probably managed by a fairly small team, and it's a lot of fun just dealing with a couple of people all the time.In terms of connectivity: Since this company uses the AT&T network, I assume the connection is as good (or bad) as AT&T comes… assuming the handset is decent.

This is a sleazy company. They will rip you off. They have bad service, are overpriced, poor phone quality. They pretend to be green – they are not. Do not be greenwashed.

Stay Away!

I have to give Earth Tones a one-star rating because I only been with them less than a month. I may have to come back to erase that star. It has not been a good month with Earth Tones. Four days ago (Dec. 8, 2011) my service just stopped. I don't know if the trouble is my new phone, or the Earth Tone service. And, it appears I may never find out. Earth Tones has a wall around the company; one cannot reach them. The half-dozen emails I've sent to ‘Support” or “info” were returned as undeliverable. All phone calls run into voicemail. A search of the internet for a way to contact them results in a zero. There is no way on God's earth anyone can contact them. Its as though they have gone out of business. Have they gone out of business? Who are these people who who raise the drawbridge over the moat, seal the windows and bar the door? They take our money and then hide behind a wall. What a terrible way to run a business. They're environmentally conscious but forget I'm part of the environment. I am a plant. I have the same makeup as a plant – hydrogen, nitrogen oxygen, and carbon. I just happened to have taken a different evolutionary tact on my way here. Save the trees and screw the customer; is that the business plan? If there is anyone reading this who knows how to contact the exalted ones at Earth Tones, please tell them I'm out here, a paying customer, twisting in the wind.

EarthTones is a horrible company. I had cell service with them and they charged me for hundreds of calls I did not make. I was in a small community in the woods where there was no cell service available and only used my phone on weekends when I went into the city. I pointed this out to them and had a long drawn out email argument with them and one of their customer service people even admitted that they had several customers during that same month with the same problem. But they refused to refund the money. They are dishonest and use environmentalism as a scam to get airheaded liberals to buy their service. You are better off buying the cheapest phone plan out there and donating to environmental causes separately.

I just needed a phone for the rare calls I might need to make as I travel across the remote West by truck and motorbike. So far, the service has been great, only not getting service where no other cell phones would work anyway. I've gotten great service in the middle of nowhere too. I definitely recommend it!

Switched to Earth Tones from Working Assets/Credo and I couldn't be happier. More of my money goes to environmental causes with earth tones & their customer service is great!

All around goodness. Phone worked fine in notoriously no-reception areas, when you call Customer service, you get to talk to a real person, not the cheapest, and it would be nice to have a free minutes and weekends deal, but definitely a good value, even without taking into account the 100% of profits being donated to environmental causes.

I was skeptical at first, but Earth Tones service is great! often better than my friends with verizon or at&t. And what's better than giving your phone bill to environmental causes?

Earth Tones are environmentally friendly and thats one thing that I love and its also non profit. but the reason I gave it for and not five is because they are a bit more pricier compared to the other guys

Since Earthtones is a non-profit organization, you'll know that your hard earned money isn't lining the pockets of an evil, giant media conglomerate. That'll make you feel pretty good, and knowing that Earthtones profits go to environmental causes will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!
