Alcatel Announces New Go Play Phone
September 8, 2015/
If you’re on a prepaid plan, then an unlocked device is probably your best bet for getting the most bang for your buck. While finding unlocked handsets can sometimes be a bit of a hassle, more and more companies are starting to market phones unlocked directly to consumers. Motorola did it first with the 2015 Moto line and it looks like Alcatel is following suit with its new Go Play devices.
These brightly-colored devices look like they are actually going to be a pretty good option, especially for active users. The phones come with an IP67 rating for water and dust and the company says that users should even be able to take underwater photos, which is pretty sweet.
As far as specs go, the phones are solidly midrange in both price and hardware and feature 1 GB of RAM, a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with 8 GB of storage. The device has an 8 MP main camera and a 5 MP front camera along with GPS, an FM radio and a decent sized battery. I’ve had Alcatel phones in the past and while you can sometimes see the slightly lower quality, they’re still not half bad.
These hardy phones are expected to retail in the sub-$150 range and are sold unlocked for GSM networks. The phones should work with most (if not all) T-Mobile and AT&T networks, which gives you quite a few MVNO options as well as the main carriers themselves. Check out T-Mobile or AT&T MVNOs for a list of choices.
The Go Play device should be available in the coming months and will be sold directly from Alcatel’s website.]]>
