AT&T looks to take the lead in wireless-driven society

AT&T (a company we’ve bashed recently) taking steps to be at the forefront of that movement. Of course, there are plenty of self-serving interests there, but as they serve themselves, they also serve us. We want more wireless communication just as much as they want the money from our pockets. So we suppose that makes it an even exchange. “Without question, wireless is the link to all the major trends in the industry today,” Randall Stephenson, CEO of AT&T. “The most important networking purchase a household makes is about their wireless service. And it makes sense, it’s the one device you take with you whereever you go.” AT&T begins its wireless media initiative soon, as it rolls out its new 3G network in three cities: Atlanta, Dallas, and San Antonio. By the end of July, they hope to hit 160 markets. This will be a large step for them, as they are behind competitors Sprint and Verion with offering a 3G network. This just means more choices, really. AT&T is trying to entice consumers with products like the iPhone, exclusive hardware that generates lots of hype. However, the best way to view this is that AT&T is just presenting one more option. The more options we have, the better our chance of making the best possible decision. [ZDNet]]]>
