Rogers Warns Customers of Service Disruptions
February 12, 2015/
Canadian wireless provider Rogers has sent out announcements to customers in Western Canada that they might experience ‘intermittent disruptions’ to wireless service over the course of the next few weeks or so as Rogers upgrades some towers. The message was sent out via SMS and email. Here’s a screenshot from MobileSyrup of one such notice:
From what I can gather, the company is planning on upgrading some towers to use the 700 Mhz spectrum that Rogers purchased in last year’s auction, and also to provide LTE service to some areas. The FAQ specifies “Western Canada” as the main area for these upgrades, but MobileSyrup reported that outages are localized to parts of British Columbia. Upgrades should occur at off-peak hours, should only last a few hours (in theory) and users should be given at least 24 hours notice. Rogers state that 911 calls should not be impacted by these service interruptions.
