T-Mobile, MetroPCS Get New Alcatel Phones

T-Mobile and their MVNO company MetroPCS will be the first to get Alcatel’s two new phones, the Alcatel OneTouch Fierce 2 and the Alcatel OneTouch Evolve 2. Both phones are entry-level smartphone devices designed for new users. Both their prices and features are modest and while it’s doubtful they will impress anyone, they will still be functional smartphones. T-Mobile will have the new devices starting September 10, while MetroPCS will get them later this fall. Some key features of the Fierce 2 include a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, Android KitKat 4.4 with 1GB of RAM and 4 GB storage (with a microSD card slot), a 5 inch display,a 5 MP camera and a VGA front camera. Official prices haven’t been released, but calculating from the monthly payment plans T-Mobile has advertised ($5.25/month for 24 months) we figure it will probably cost around $126, plus applicable taxes and such. Here’s to hoping it is missing some of the faults of its sluggish predecessor, the OneTouch Fierce, which has a tendency to randomly shut down and black out the screen. The Alcatel OneTouch Evolve 2 is a very basic, entry-level phone that reportedly comes with ‘pre-configured home screens’ with widgets and such. It’s meant for someone who isn’t interested in any of the customization that Android lovers crave, but simply want a functional smartphone they can use out of the box. Some key features include 1.3 GHz dual-core processor, Android KitKat 4.4, 4 inch display, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB storage, microSD slot, smaller battery than the Fierce 2, a 5 MP back camera and a VGA front camera. Again, official prices are not released, but T-Mobile’s monthly pricing ($3.30/month for 24 months) leads to an estimate of around $79 plus tax. “We love breaking new ground, and that’s why we’re excited to be the first to launch the Alcatel OneTouch Fierce 2 and Evolve 2 in the U.S,” said Jason Young, Senior Vice President of Marketing at T-Mobile in regards to the new phones.]]>
