GSM Nation Launches new MVNO, US Mobile
September 23, 2014/
GSM Nation has launched a new MVNO aimed at customers who are looking for mobile plans price at under $25. The new company, U.S. Mobile, runs on T-Mobile’s GSM network and features a tiered plan program similar to Ting where users can build a custom plan based on how many voice minutes, texts and MB they will use.
Gigaom writes that GSM Nation has actually been planning the launch of US Mobile for a couple of years, but suspended the project to work with other MVNOs that wanted to resell GSM Nation’s products–most notably Solavei (who declared bankruptcy), Simple Mobile (acquired by TracFone) and RedPocket Mobile. However, with those deals mostly falling through, GSM Nation went back to their original plan of launching a secondary MVNO.
For prices, US Mobile has some pretty cheap rates, ranging from $11 for the absolute minimum on everything to $64 for the maximum on everything. They also offer international calling. Here is what their plan chart looks like:

US Mobile’s plan was beta tested for a few months at universities and by volunteers across the country. Several Howard Forums users beta tested the service and reported excellent customer service, but had some trouble with data, likely due to poor T-Mobile reception. U.S. Mobile uses T-Mobile’s network and their website coverage map certainly looks like a T-mobile MVNO, with no roaming offered.
However, if you’re a very light user, something like this plan might be worth a go. Let us know your experiences with this new MVNO in the comments!

I have wifi at the office and home. I call and text with Hangouts which uses wifi when available. I use some data when I’m out. So after watching my usage I decided I’m a pretty light user overall. I activated my US Mobile SIM two days ago. Easy. I ported my number, it went through almost instantaneously–less than 5 minutes. The plan I set up for myself cost $10.70 including the $2/month service fee. If it turns out that I need more I can just buy a little more to get me through the month. But so far I’m right on track. And I’m not planning my life around not using my phone, I’m just doing what I always do. Signal seems the same as other T-Mo MVNOs, which in my case is great. I love this.
