MetroPCS Adds Free Hotspot to Plans
June 12, 2015/
On Wednesday, we reported that T-Mobile might soon be offering free mobile hotspots for its prepaid customers, but at the time it was mostly just a rumor. However, I am pleased to announce that the rumor has been confirmed by PDX Cell Tech, which wrote that MetroPCS will also be offering free hotspots to all customers on all plans starting June 12.
Previously, hotspots could be added to any MetroPCS plan for an additional $5 per month. MetroPCS should be contacting customers who have this add-on with the option to continue it for an additional 1 GB of tethering data per month. Customers will have the option of discontinuing to receive the normal data amount.
Customers will be limited to tether or hotspot the same amount of high speed data as their plan would normally allow. Once that limit is reached, tethering can continue at reduced speeds. It’s not immediately apparent if the hotspot data is separate from the regular data pool, but I would assume it is not.
The hotspot/tethering ability should become available to customers today. If you have any questions, you should contact MetroPCS for more information.]]>
