I have worked for cell phone manuf. Nortel and Ericcsion and the phones tracfone offers are not state of the art. I have not had problems with CS in 4 yrs and have transfered service to a new phone w/o loss of minutes or problems. Service on GSM phones is with ATT network and at times less than great. Overall it meets my needs for ocasional/emergency calls at reasonable price. Get a double min for life phone.

OMG! This company sucks! The phones don’t work, the SIM cards don’t work, the replacement phones don’t work. You can’t understand half the people in customer service and they hang up on you half the time. They have the unusable phones back and they won’t refund my money for the phones or the airtime that couldn’t be used because the phones NEVER worked!STAY AWAY from this company-you will lose your money and your sanity if you don’t!

It’s not the best phone for sure . I’m always getting a -34 error message instead of the number I dialed. Sometimes you have to include the area code and sometimes not or it won’t work at all and that’s from one block to another; stupid phone!!!!

There should be a negative rating! TracFone is the worst company I have EVER worked with. After a month and 12 hours on the phone with their ‘technicians’, they never could get 3 phones to work, kept making me buy more airtime to try to make the useless phones work,I returned the phones and they will not refund my money. The ‘customer service’ has hung up on me,used vulgar profanity ,and has done nothing but give me the run around. This is a company to STAY AWAY from!

I agree with the 1 star people; I would give negative stars if I had the choice. We have spent countless hours on the phone trying to add minutes with foreigners all over the world, apparently reading from a script (with no sense of humor or at least not American humor) giving us numbers upon numbers to enter and sending us new SIM cards. We just tried tonight to purchase more minutes so we don’t lose the 260+ minutes (that were charged to us in error to begin with) and we have been unsuccessful. We give up!! They are being recycled and we are free! Never again! I repeat, never again will we purchase Trac Phones! The only thing that has been positive about all of this is reading some of your reviews; I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes, because it’s so true.

…..been with tracfone for over (8) years; made the mistake of upgrading my phone; could not setup voicemail and had to call tech support; 13 more calls later (at a minimum of 45 minutes each) i still have no voicemail; my year is up in January 2011; i will lose over 500 minutes but i will be rid of this lousy fone!!!

Tracphone is the best, I have been using this service for many years. I have received a free digital phone when they switched over to digital, and now have an LG420g. I love the phone and the service.

It works well when it works. Recently when charging my phone I noticed I had lost most of my minutes–almost 400. I had to call tech support twice to get it resolved. This is the third time I had issues requiring tech support. The call staff was helpful buy incredibly inefficient. Plan on at least a half hour with even the simplest issue. It is a great business plan, suits my needs, but getting help is very aggravating–I am a guy who rarely complains. The poor customer service makes it a deal killer. I am now actively looking for an alternative and don’t expect to be a customer much longer.

Tracfone might not have the cheapest minute and text rates, but the amount of control that tracfone allows me to exert in the business, is what saves me money. I supply 11 people with business cell phones. When they run out of time, I go to the tracfone website and buy more , and get everything sorted out immediately. Having my employees coming to me, and asking for more minutes is what saves me money. I don’t try and save money by buying bulk amounts – cause I know, once there’s a bulk amount, it’s easy to lose track of how much you’re consuming. Much the same as having credit with a phone company. So I buy small amounts at a time, and always ask the question ‘why so quickly…again’The coverage I suppose is directly dependant on what network is dominant in your area. I’m pretty lucky to have strong coverage from both CDMA and GSM networks. I choose CDMA because it’s more reliable when leaving the range of the city. It works for me.With eleven phones, I haven’t once needed to phone the customer service center. Thats very good as far as I’m concerned.Tracfone is not what I use for myself, as my own needs differ from my business needs. But as a business option, it’s saved me a lot of money, and has very rarely let me down.

I do like the simple set up, no contract and pay as you go features. I will say that I learned after I purchased the phone, that if you do your research, there are many other prepaid plans out there that are cheaper. I have called customer service twice and was dissatisfied with their service, provided out of India. When the agent took over 30 min to assist me and kept putting me on hold, I asked to speak to a supervisor. I had to request 4 times before he transferred me to the supervisor. The sup wanted all the information, was VERY hard to understand (English people, English!)and as I could not understand him, I requested a number in the United States. At first Harvey, probably not his real name, told me there was no other number to call. I had to request the corporate office phone number SEVEN TIMES before he gave it to me. I received no help and they wasted 50 minutes of my life that I will never get back. The moral of this story is not a bad way to go, but there are better plans out there, maybe without customer service in India.

I switched over to prepaid, and tracfone specifically about five years ago. Much to my delight I would never have to look at another contract bill in my life! The five years have been good years. The prepaid policy alone has helped me save money, and especially helped in me not getting into any big month end trouble. The phones I’ve gotten from tracfone have also been very reliable. In fact, one definite trademark as far as tracfones are concerned, is their durability. They do last. They are however very basic, and only recently have I seen the emergence of slightly clever phones enter their range. Being a small user of a cellphone that doesn’t bother me much at all. In fact, since the time I’ve been using tracfone, I’ve had two kids growing into a cellphone, and they too got tracfones – the expense is minimal with tracfone. I give them $7 plans once a month, and they must make it last. It works. The whole tracfone thing hasn’t been without glitches. The first thing I had to learn through experience, or a lack of interest, was that tracfone operates nationwide, but on two different types of network. These two different types constitute the nationwide bit to their coverage. I initially made the mistake of buying a GSM tracfone. The reception was great at home, but on business trips I dropped a lot of calls. This was remedied when I got a cheap CDMA phone. Secondly was the one time I had to deal with the customer service people. They just couldn’t help me fix a phone.Other than that it’s very very important, as far as I’m concerned to get a tracfone with double minutes for life. If not, the minute to minute rates are quite ordinary. You need that aspect.Nice cheap product.

I’ve had a TracFone phone for many years and have helped almost 400 folks, many seniors, set up and maintain TracFones over the last 5-6 years. It is a great system. It works… from the initial purchase to buying/adding airtime. The coverage is excellent, I’ve used my phone many times while traveling from coast to coast and in between. They back-up their products with a 1 year guarantee. I’d recommend them absolutely. TF is particularly valuable for those who use their cellphone for occasional use (up to about 250 to 300 minutes per month) but can also be economical for those using more than that. I think they’re a great company and provide a great service

My Tracfone is better than my husbands sprint/nextel phone as we travel from Texas to California. His sprint service is not available going across but my tracfone is always available going across country….I have never had a problem with customer service. I just purchase a different tracfone at family dollar for $15 and went online and transferred all minutes from my old phone to my new phone without a problem and my new phone was working before the phone was fully charged…great prices, great phone!

I’d like to think I know tracfone quite well. I’ve been using their moto 139’s for all the drivers in my trucks, which is nearly indestructable, and accommodates talking and texting. That’s all I need the phones for. The prepaid element does save me a lot of money. If only because I’m the one that sits in front of the tracfone website and buys the minutes – invariably I like to ask why has the minutes gone so quickly. But the main reason I’ve stuck to tracfone is for the coverage – which has been the best to me, as far as covering the trucks far away from the city. Having said that, it’s very important to me to be on the verizon network – another reason I prefer the moto139 above any other. It’s a CDMA phone, covered by verizon.I have had one run in with their customer service department when I recieved the wrong phone, after ordering it online. The issue was never resolved, but only paying $10 for the phone meant I could carry on without too much inconvenience. Tracfone has by and large been good for my business. Personally I go with another service, but I have different needs from a phone.

tracfone does have attrative rates and a decent phone selection, but, if you have problems you are screwed. Tracfone’s solution to all problems is to call their service center, which usually entails a half hour, or longer, wait on hold then trying to talk to a service rep, to whom English is a second language, with a lot of background noise. Tracfone also refused to refund six months of sevice that were paid for and not received.

Great coverage. I usually have bars when other carriers are dropping calls. There is one major downside to TracFone especially if you text message a lot. The texts are 33 cents to send/receive one page texts. Where it sticks you is that if for some reason the text message fails to send, you still get charged the 33 cents. If you resend the same text later from your outbox, you pay ANOTHER 33 cents. In this day and age we should be able to fix this.

I’ve been a Tracfone customer for 3 years now. Not only I save a huge amount of money, but I believe it to be the best prepaid service in the market. Not only they have great voice quality, but they always have great promotions, like double your minutes and bonus minutes. Tracfone is the way to go if you dont want to get suck with a monthly bill and a contract.

I got a tracfone in 2008. It sucks. When I try to call my voicemail, it acts like I am calling from another phone and wanting to leave a message. It plays my greeting and says ‘leave a message after the tone.’ Also, my reception is horrible, even in the middle of town. I have to recharge my battery at least every two days because it eats up my battery life when I search for service or am on Roam. Dropped calls are common, and half the time, my missed calls don’t even show up. I am always having people ask me ‘how come you didn’t call me back?’ It is extremely annoying! I would not reccommend tracfone for anybody.

It’s no wonder why Tracfone is the leader in the prepaid industry. It’s very affordable and the service is exteremely reliable. Although it’s not for me, as I’m a heavy cell phone user, for light and emergency-only user like my grandfather it’s perfect. I got him a basic Tracfone and it’s a challenge to get him to carry it around (at first) but it gives us such a peace of mind to know that he can reach us or vice versa wherever, whenver.

First phone broke and the horrible customer service can’t help? Company shut off the second phone with no notice!! Phone still reads 2000+ minutes and 3 full months of service available? Still have an additional 2000+ minutes left that they can not seem to transfer?? Company sent me an email stating if I sent them a money order for $150.00 they would help me. Are you crazy? No information as to what the problem was or exactly what service they would provide when they were ‘helping’ me??? Worst customer service I have ever had with any company!!! I filed with the Better Business Bureau!!! No to use this company!!! Can’t replace a broken phone, can’t transfer $200.00 dollars worth of minutes to a new phone, can’t use the old sim card in another phone (so all your data is lost)and the company simply shuts off your phone when their own system still reads months left of service available with 2000 minutes left???? I have waisted $600.00 dollars when I could have used the most reliable company for the same price with significantly better service and MUCH better customer service!~!! Please use another company!!!Joey

I vote there should be ZERO stars! This was my first experience with Tracfone and I wish I had never switched! After 3 calls to customer service at least an hour each, I still have no service. They tell me I need a new sim card but they have cancelled the shipment of it twice. Maybe the calls take so long because the reps can’t speak english. Moral of the story is: If you are thinking of switching…DON’T!

Just upgraded to a new phone, and everything went bad. If you get one and it works, you are good. If you have to deal with Customer service, you are SOL. I have so far spent 8hrs of my life trying to get the new phone, and then a replacement phone to work. I have $150 wrapped up in this phone(yr service) been 2 wks without one. They just don’t care.

Call quality was decent, but their phones have gotten cheaper and of poorer quality over the years. I initially liked the pay-as-you go service a lot. But as they changed networks, they forced me to get new phones twice, offering me a free ‘upgrade’ to junk phones. Like playskool phones, practically. And I don’t even WANT a fancy or complicated phone. I like just a basic phone. One time, they ‘lost’ my number during the transfer to a new network and thereby forced me to change my number!Last month, I decided to upgrade to a ‘nicer’ phone, which died 2 weeks after I got it.There were technical glitches (on their end) transferring the service to the new phones each time. This last time, they ‘lost’ my phone number AGAIN. They swore they couldn’t get it back, but did after 3 infuriating hours of me going ape on the phone with customer ‘service’ located in third world countries.Call quality seemed fine and I really liked the simple, straightforward pricing, but I’m firing Tracfone after several years with them. I can’t take the junk phones and lousy customer service anymore. When I never had to deal with customer service, I liked this company. But if you have ANY customer service issue, kiss 1-2 hours of your life good bye and be sure take your blood pressure medicine ahead of time.

At first Tracfone worked really well for me. Then I left the country, turned off the phone but carried it with me since I know I had to use it to call the person who would pick me up at the airport when I arrived 3 weeks later. Well, 3 weeks later at the airport in Miami, my Tracfone had no signal. I had to desperately look for a payphone at the airport to contact the person who was to pick me up. After I had settled in at home I got on the phone and called customer service. Got connected to a person (who wasn’t in the USA) and asked him why I had the problem. He said that their system registered another phone number which wasn’t my phone number. (????) Then he kept checking with another department about sending me a new sim card. This took more than an hour, if I hang up he said the ‘project’ will be cancelled or I would have to start all over again with my request….Can you believe it ? Well, I had to hang up because of dinner, and up to now my phone has no signal, and of course I’ll have to start all over again tomorrow to call up customer service. I am at this point ready to look into another provider because this just doesn’t work well with me.

We lost alot of business. they did not offer any type of compensation for all the money and clients we lost due to this. They gave me a new # which they disconnected after a week because their system screwed up. Again we lost business and they gave me 100 minutes big deal. I am not impressed. The customer service stinks they lie to you and put you on hold for hours. I was on hold for 14 hours over 6 days with who knows how many different people that you can barely hear through their poor connection. Can I give 0 stars ? had it for month and then asked to change the phone number to one in my area code. From then on the number they gave me as my phone number was wrong. This seemed unfixable in the 4 times I called. I gave up and used it to call out only. Dialling directory assistance cost me 50 minutes. I called and complained and it was reversed. I figured it was a fluke and called 411 again 2 days later. again deducted 50 minutes. When I called to complain I had to ask for a supervisor since the regular customer service person said I should of known better than to call 411 again. I reupped my service since the day it was expiring i was actually able to receive calls !! I week later if anyone tries to call me they are rerouted to a different number.. and ugh now time for customer service again. Its cheap and at a big cost.

Honestly, Tracfone is a great prepaid phone to use if you wanna save your money for more important things than chatting on a cell all day long. They deliver the basics at a good price, they don’t compromise on network coverage and they are reliable. My current handset is nothing fancy but has been going for almost two years. Two years of service cost me what some people pay on their contracts in 6 months or less.

If you have a need for customer service be prepared to be disappointed! The customer service reps (almost non-english speaking) can only read from a script and can not think for themselves. I ordered a tracfone and was awaiting for my landline number to be ported over when the new tracfone stopped working. It was dead and not from not being charged. I called to find out what I needed to do to receive a new phone and the customer service rep could not understand what I was talking about. He kept saying my service will start in 24 to 48 hours! Repeatedly I told him I know that but my phone wasn’t working at all! He never did get it so I hung up. Also, if your tracfone does break when you have minutes on it…. bye bye minutes!

Tracfone was the first prepaid phone I used many years ago. In those days there were no other prepaid options even available and Tracfone was the only way to own a phone if you didn’t or couldn’t sign a contract. I used them fora bit while traveling and the phones worked well. But in the intervening years I used contract cell phones and completely ignored prepaid phone ads and offers.Recently I decided to check out the prepaid scene again. Although there are now many prepaid plans available (I tried a few the last year) I still think Tracfone is the better prepaid carrier. Really, really cheap phones and low rates makes them the most affordable option for those who want to save. So after all these years I’m back on Tracfone and very much like it.

I had been with Tracfone 4 years when I decided to get a new phone which included double minutes for life. The new phone had a defect in the display. I was sent a new phone. Same problem. I have been sent 4 phones. Every one is defective. The customer service has been horrifying. They have never actually done anything to correct the situation. They have told me they cannot refund my money. I asked to transfer the minutes I had purchased to my original 4 year old phone and they told me that could not be done. I have made a claim to the Better Business Bureau. I am currently without any cell phone and have not had any of my money refunded. I don’t know what else to do. This has been a real nightmare and I suggest to anyone and everyone: be very careful of dealing with Tracfone. If you never have to deal with customer service you may be okay, but are you willing to take the risk? I am currently out more than $60.

Even if you don’t like the CS of Tracfone, you gotta love the price and the great nationwide service! CS is not enough of a deal-breaker for me to move to some other carrier where I will probably get ripped off with inferior network coverage or have to pay much more (maybe even both) than I’m paying right now with Tracfone. I love the convenience, ease of budgeting and affordability I get by using Tracfone.

Love the Tracfone service! Coast to coast nationwide coverage = perfection for when I travel. The savings each month are amazing and the phones are brand name high quality products. Going prepaid was the smartest decision I made and using Tracfone definitely has been a positive and beneficial experience 🙂

Avoid TRACFONE!!! customer support is HORRIFIC!!! You had better hope and pray that you never need to speak to cust. svc. they are the worst I’ve ever had to deal with. they don’t speak english, and think they know everything (they don’t). I would choose any provider over Tracfone.

If only there were negative rating numbers . . . Why do I feel like I’m dealing with a Third World Country? OH . . . because I AM! Right. For the last year, every time I added minutes to my phone, my credit card was charged, but the minutes were not added. I had to call Tracfone, was on the phone for at least an hour, and had to add 60+ code numbers into the phone. I tried to tell them the phone was defective. Finally, last week, they admitted there was something wrong with the phone (2-1/2 more hours that day). They assured me they would transfer my phone number to the new phone. After 1-1/2 hours, my minutes were transferred (though one minute short), but my phone number was different. I accepted the new phone number to avoid having to deal with them anymore. Ah, but fate interjected! This afternoon, my expiration date suddenly changed to TODAY! Not 1/15/11 like it was earlier. Wow. Finally (something I should have done months ago), I called the “corporate” headquarters (where English clearly isn’t their first language), but my problem was finally resolved (I hate to even say that). They were trying to be kind and extended my service to 4/5/11. I just hope I use up my minutes way before then so I can move on to AT&T!

After the 4th call my phone is no longer disabled, they have fixed my date of my phone 2 months longer for minutes I have but are telling me I got my minutes which was my original problem(Family Plan). They must have a time limit, it took 30 minutes to solve this problem and then just would not help any more. I have cancelled my family plan.

I have been using Tracfone for about a year now, and I have had a very positive experience. It provides me with service on the same towers as the contract and the pay as you go service that I had previously, but much, much less expensive. I get to pay for the service I actually use, not a series of trumped fees and charges that just feed someones bottom line profit. The key to using a Tracfone is to understand what its purpose is. It is a phone. It is cheap enough to flip and replace whenever and wherever needed. Hence, I don’t really consider the issues that people report with Customer Service as being a big deal. Here’s how I use them. I buy a phone on sale at a local retail outlet. I always get the ones that have double minutes for life. Thus far, I have paid $10, $15 and $15. Buy the phone, take it home, go to the web site, fill it with about 1-2 months worth of minutes.Always go and find a promo code to give you an additional 30-50 minutes. They are out there, and are easy to find. Here’s the math, then. New Phone, $15. Web sign-up give you 60 days and 20 minutes of service. Then buy 120 minutes for $30. This gives you another 90 days of service and 240 minutes (remember the double minutes for life). Enter the promo code for an additional 40 minutes when you do the web purchase of the minutes. So, here’s what you end up with…A new phone with 300 minutes of airtime and 5 months of service. For $45. If you don’t buy a phone to babble non-stop in your car everywhere you go, this is a really good package. Running low on minutes? Drop another $30 into the phone and you get another 300 or so minutes.Phone gives you a problem? Drop it in the bottom of a drawer somewhere, hack up another $15 and get a nice crisp shiny new phone. As long as you don’t try to carry your old phone numbers around with you for life, it is just that simple. When I buy a Tracfone, I am always amused when the clerk tries to sell me the ‘Phone Protection Package’. What does it cover? I ask. ‘If you lose your phone, or it breaks, the plan will replace it’. Why bother? Its a $15 phone.Using the phone this way, I have NEVER had to call customer service, and don’t really see the need to. I carry 2 phones around with me so that one is always fully charged and ready to use. If one runs low on minutes, I just buy some more. You can also buy them at a buzillion retail establishments, if caught out in the field. So, as long as you are not the kind of person who gets on a bread line and demands toast and marmelade, you should do just fine with a Tracfone. It is a basic phone. That’s what you pay for, that’s what you’re going to get. Demand anything other than that, and you may well be disappointed

Very disappoint. Have had the family plan for some time, this last 6 months was the worst. Make sure you get your minutes. I haven’t got them for 2 months and just realized it and tried to resolve this. They told I would have to buy a new phone to get my minutes. The minutes I had on my phone were disabled because I keep entering the code they told me to so I have NO phone. Customer Service speaks poor ENGLISH, I’ve called twice and sent emails. They don’t know how to read because when I reported my issue they gave the same steps.

My mother and I have had Tracfone for about 10 years, and have been reasonably satisfied. I have always dreaded calling Customer Service because it has always been a pain, but I was able to handle most business on the website. All changed now. A month ago I bought a new phone, tried to change my number and minutes, and it has been a nightmare. I was going to buy my dad a tracfone, but now am going to cancel mine, my mother’s and I am researching other companies.C.S. is THE WORST ever, and I will tell everyone I know never to buy Tracfone.

I’d give them a 5* rating if their customer service was a bit better. I do feel though that it’s a bit harsh to mark them down to a 1 because of customer service. I pay a much lower monthly rate then what I would on contract, am minus the hassle of bills, have good coverage and am in total control of what I spend, all of which outweighs the negative aspect of customer service. I realize that this isn’t applicable to all, but I also love that you can call internationally at no extra cost as my sister is in the UK, so I can stay on top of what’s happening in her life.

Don’t believe everything you read. I avoided Tracfone for sometime due to some of the negative reviews I read. I was eventually placed in the financial situation where they were the best option affordable, gave them a chance and to be honest, it was the best thing that could have happened. I have fantastic coverage at a really affordable rate. I don’t have to deal with contracts or bills. Simple to load minutes and easy to keep track of how many are left. Phones are really cheap and while they don’t have all the extras, for the price you are paying, who can complain? Customer service seems to be a bit of a shot in the dark, with some days a reasonable experience, some days not, but as I’ve mentioned before, for the low price you pay, I’ll take my chances-my previous provider wasn’t that great either!

Worse, my 539.9 minutes and service ’till 4/2014 disappeared. Now, they wanna send me a new SIM card… Frankly, I see no sense is wasting any more time on these guys or their service. I’ve been a TracFone user for 13 years and have never had any of the problems that I see in here. My experience with customer service, the one time I had to use them when transferring my minutes to a new phone that I purchased went through without any problems at all. Previously when you added minutes, you either had to call or do it online, now you can add the minutes just by turning on your phone and keying it in which is as easy as 1 2 3. Very satisfied TracFone user.

As a family of seven I purchased 5 phones because I thought it would be the cheapest way for my family to have emergency communication. Well, every time I have to add minutes to the phones it is a huge hassle. I’ve never ever been able to complete a transaction on the website, and when I’m on the phone it takes at least an hour and usually more than one phone call to accomplish. It should never be this way. The customer service is the pits!!!

Right now, I’m giving the Tracfone Customer Service a 1 star rating. They are not that great. My mom has had the service for a few months, no problems. But I had my husbands old # transfer to the Tracfone service, and I was ready to tear my hair out and kill the guy I was talking to. He did repeat nearly everything I told him, and after talking to one service rep 3 days before, and being told it would take 72hrs, I didn’t think much of it. Then I get a call 3 days later buy another rep, who had to repeat ell that I said, and I was told the phone would not work for 24-48hrs, and I was even told it could take another 5 days before the phone would work. Well, luckily the next day the phone worked, and I added minutes, and the phone came with double minutes. So I am glad the service works, which is why I gave it 4 stars. Most companies have overseas customer reps/service, which aren’t the nicest people to deal with most of the time, but it happens. I havegotten some nice corgial people on the phone, but yesterday drove me nuts, so hope the next time it won’t be so bad.

I’ve been with Tracfone for five years already and have never had a complaint, except once that I had to call customer service and it was, in fact, very challenging, but they did solve my problem. And with Tracfone prices (both for the phones and the airtime) I can’t believe anyone would complain.

Have had the prepaid plan for about 2.5 years and worked fine until 1/19/10 and since this time automatic minutes have not been added automatically. They have promised that it is fixed each time I have to call, but nothing. I have to call each month to get the minutes that are due to us. Coverage is good, but if you have problems buyer beware.

Phone it self is good. I’m signed up for the 50 min/30 day plan for $10; good deal!I don’t use my phone much mostly take it in my car for an emergency.Like someone else here, I don’t get min & time added automatically anymore. For about the 1st 6 months or so, I recieved them right after my bank card was charged. Then it stopped, though my card was still charged. At first I tried calling customer service. What a run around!!!!!This seems to be the biggest complaint here! I guess Tracphone doesn’t care!Anyway, this happened for 2 months straight. Each time I got my minutes, but only after having to repeat my story to 2 or 3 different people who could barely speak English!!! Plus of course, re-programming my phone several times! Then I figured out I could get them(min & days)myself on their site. It’s a bit of a hassle, but works fine. Maybe it has something to do with my phone being about 5 yrs old or so. Of course, no one at Tracphone could tell me if that had anything to do with my issue(if they even understood my question!).My brother has Net 10 which is a part of Tracphone & he has had hassles with customer service too(probably the same one). His was even worse as he lost minutes when they were transferring his phone number to a new phone.

HATE Trackfone. Been on hold over 3 hours to get purchased minutes and benefit of a coupon that WON’T be honored despite coupon stating ‘valid until 2011.’ No one in ‘customer service’ speaks English properly, customers are transferred four times to various other accents and then ‘supervisor’ pretends there’s a ‘technical difficulty’ on their end and ‘can’t hear you’ so speaks Hindi among associates then disconnects. Tracfone is a third world scam. Just because it’s sold in Vons, Safeway and Pavillions, it’s not legitimate AND you can’t be refunded. Might as well throw a hundred bucks or more away! A consumer class action lawsuit should be filed against stores selling this defective phone service. Plus! Number you receive has been used before and you are charged for an influx of wrong calls!

I feel like I’m really not qualified to write a review, but I’m so happy to have found the new Tracfone Senior Value phone I’d like to say something about it. This is a great phone for seniors like me. It’s affordable and the big keys and a big screen display make it really easy to use. The screen lights up so you can also see easily in the dark. Phones start at $20, which is nothing and monthly service is really cheap. I’ve read a few complaints about Tracfone customer service, but that’s the least of my concerns. I don’t need to be dealing with customer service every day. What I want is a good phone with good reception and reliable coverage and that’s what I have. I’m a satisfied Tracfone customer.

Everything was fine except for 4 hours of aggravation on the phone with someone that doesn’t speak very good English. Forward one year and its time to add minutes. Oops, no double minutes. Apparently they never added my double minutes to my account for the last phone which THEY sent to me. I just got Tracfone because they’ve come out with a cell phone for seniors that’s a fraction of the price of Jitterbug. I can actually SEE the keys on my phone. How about that? And the display has BIG numbers and it’s lighted. It’s also got 911 emergency assist. I’m not about to go crazy and start calling everybody all over the world, but just in case, I like that international calling is the same price as calling my neighbor. I have had several Tracfones for about 5 years. The phone service is excellent, but the customer service is intolerable. I decided several years ago to use the automatic payment plan. Worked fine for them, they got my payment every month, but my phone didn’t get updated. Every three months I had to call or go on line to get the added minutes and time. It was and is always a hassle. Every time it took about 40 to 60 minutes. The CS representatives are usually hard to understand as they do not speak English well, and often the phone connection is terrible. I had finally decided to stop the automatic payment and start using the prepaid cards. The nextI went online to add time and also opt out of the automatic payment. I had tried to do it online, but could not see any way to do it there. I was on there for about 50 minutes, and during that time talked so several different who kept putting me on hold while the ‘checked with a supervisor.’ I finally got so frustrated I just hung up so I could cool off. Several days later I was able to get the minutes added. I called using Skype that time and recorded the whole thing on tape, and I let them know up front that I was taping it. I was also able to get the automatic payment stopped. My current time is up in a couple of days, so today I attempted to use the ‘add airtime’ feature on the phone for a recently purchased card, and got a pop up message, ‘unavailable’. Whatever that means. So I went online and tried to enter it there. The links on their net site didn’t work at first, but after about 10 minutes I got to the ‘add airtime’ page. I entered the card number and my phone number and clicked ‘submit’ and got no response. I kept clicking it for several minutes and finally just backed up and went through the process again. After a few minutes it went to another pages with the message to that the request was being procsssed, and that I should leave the phone turned on for five minutes for that to happen. (Since there is no on/off button, I guess that it is always on except when actually turned off or in ‘airplane’ mode). Just to be sure, I plugged in the charger, and left the face open. That was five hours ago, and my minutes still have not been added. I went back to the online site and tried again, but after getting to the ‘add airtime’ page, the links there just did not work. I will try again, but this is definitely the last time I will go through this hassle. If this company brought the jobs back to this country we would all be better off.

They WILL fix the problem in my experience. Adding airtime online is the best method & couldn’t be simpler. With Double Minutes, go for the ‘Web only’ 1,500, which becomes 3,000 mins. and 1yr. of service for $200 + your local sales tax. Service coverage has been very good….no dropped calls, ever! Can’t say that for the Verizon service I canceled after one month. boy! what a hassle trying to get my problem solved! first time i bought tracfone. should have read reviews first and save me all the aggravation. had my old landline number ported over. that took about six days. did not have phone service for that many days. finally got activated but then could not receive calls. talked to five cust. reps – all with unintelligible foreign accents ( and noisy transmission background to boot)-, each one telling me to put in this or that code number. still could not receive calls. went back and forth e-mailing tech support, – not much help. this whole thing went on for about two weeks. no phone service all that time. in the meantime, my days and minutes i bought were going down. finally out of the blue, the phone started to get calls yesterday and i get a message to call cust. rep. 800 number. i did thinking they were going to credit me for the lost days and minutes. no such luck! they would not give them back. the guy even talked to his super but he said no because the problem is now fixed. i am just glad it is working now (knock on wood) and i hope it makes it to the end of my days and minutes left, at which time i am burying the darn thing and getting MAGICJACK! This is the worst thing I have ever bought!!!!!I was first interested in buying this product because my husband is deployed overseas and they advertise that you can use the phone for international calling. I thought great I can get it to use just for me and my husband becasue my contract phone bill was getting way too high. So I bought today put 200 mins on the phone activated it through the website. Then went to text my husband and it would not go through. So I tried to call still nothing. So I text my other cell phone and it worked fine. So i tried one more time to call my husband and nothing. So I called coustmer service and do you believe I got told well we do have international calling but not to that country. So i was like you mean to tell me that you are doing false advertising. The guy agreed. So I said fine I can take the phone back to the store and get my money back for the phone but how are you guys going to pay me back for the phone card? Well finally after being transfered through lord knows how many different people and getting hung up on as well one guy had an answer for me. He told me that I would have to go to the store get the original reciept scan it to them and they would send me a check in the mail. lol!!! Who has time to hunt down an original reciept at the store? I told him I can send you my reciept but Im not going to the store to get the original reciept. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and I am in the Army too and i dont have the time for that. The guy then told me that that was the only way I would be paid back for my purchase! I then asked for the phone number to the manufacture and he would not give me the number. So if you are thinking about getting this product for international usage u may want to find out what countries they do service because in their advertising they do not tell you what countries they use. If you are considering getting this product at all be aware that their coustumer service is the worst I have ever come acroos! DO NOT BUY THID PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To new tracfone users. I feel for you. One advantage of cheap prepaid like Tracfone is you can buy their phones cheap and if doesn’t work out you can bail out and you haven’t spent much. However if you cancel your old number to port in or buy a year of service you are negating those things. Advice to Tracfone/NET10 users. NEVER port your number and NEVER add lots of minutes. To address your situation. There’s no need to spend money on an attorney. First call their Corporate Office in Miami’s ‘Executive resolution office’ at 800-876-5753. They can fix a lot of problems that CS cannot or can’t figure out.

So far, my experience with TracFone has been very positive. The Tracfone family plans is so affordable, plus the service is extremely reliable. Although the plan does not come with a lot of minutes, it work for us as our family is not particularly chatty.
