the phone worked good till i got a second phone. when I purchased more minutes and takking to two customer service people to make sure it was on the new phone and was told it was correct, two weeks later one phone in not working and the second has both the time and minutes on it. I called and one and a half hours later a supervisor explained to me the customer service person was in error and I had to purchase another card and cannot transfer anything. I now have one phone with WELL over two years and more minutes than I will use, and still need a second phone! I will purchase one some place else THANK YOU!

This is abig rip-off because the phone we purchased had mobile web on it but the service is unavailable.Only buy if you want to make phone calls or plain text messaging. No picture texting either.

Ordered online. Sent emaila sking for tracking number, no reply. Called and took 30 minutes to find out the phone I ordered was out of stock. Tried to cancel but the person I was talking to did not seem to know what she was doing. Had to keep calling another person and then back to me. Will give it more thought before ordering from anyone. Will call back after they open main office and see if I get someone with knowledge of company.

I have used Tracphone for years-keep it only for ER, and calling Mom, out of state. I give 1 star today, because I have been on hold for almost one hour trying to reach customer service-they are impossible to reach via phone- am now also waiting for reply via email.

The service is horrible. The service repsdon't seem to know how to do anything. I've been trying to get my 2nd ‘new' phone working for two weeks now and it's still not working. Their staff is incompetent. Never buy a Tracfone!!!

Purchased phone Dec/2009 for seasonal usage< Canadian in S.Florida for 5 months. Sporadic reception.. unable to receive incoming calls, callers are told there is no service.. not deirected to voice mail. Outgoing calls , especially international to Canada start out fine just as connection made, cuts off, minutes deducted.. start call again, cut off.Customer service notified on 5 occasions, I was told nothing can be done. What a scam!!!!!!!

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Save yourself a very irritating experience and STAY AWAY FROM TRACFONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tracfone is really expensive plus customer service really really really worst. I have spoken to several different customer service Reps, Floor supervisor (Christian), and Manager (Janifer), they are rude and unprofessional when you give them call and explain them real issues and problems. They simply do not admit their mistakes and errors that they make (such as transferring phone number from one to another, ask for credits, or other technical errors)no matter how genuine the problem is, they do not accept any problem or compensate your for their errors. Tracfone charge you whether other party has even answered your call or not, as soon you dial the number it starts charging your prepaid account. It seems like it is a complete scam, and not a reliable phone company.

We use this phone in a very limited way. We have been using TracPhone for more than 3 years and have been very satisfied with the service. My experience with customer service has been good unlike other people's experiences as reported in these reviews. As we don't use cell phone service very often we like not having to have a cell phone contract.

Pros:- PREPAID gets you three months to use minutes- great for emergency/limited use. if you just need a phone- Phones not cluttered with features- Sound quality tends to be good- Bonus minute promo codes EASILY found on google- Minutes and time always roll overCons:- It gets expensive if you use your minutes too often- No texting-specific phones- depending on the phone, .3 units to text is like having one carnival ticket left over, and nothing in the carnival is JUST one ticket.Though I could think of more pros than cons, quality over quantity. The cons still outweigh the pros. But in all honesty, it just depends on what you're looking for in a phone.Really, it depends on what you're looking for.As for rating customer service, it varies on how patient you are. Screaming at them isn't going to help, and being patient and polite often-times gets you bonus minutes and/or time. (such as setting up your voice mail. I lost three minutes, I got 15 bonus minutes)

I have been using Tracfones for 3 years. My wife had one for 2 years and it worked great. Last year bought a Tracfone and it took 2 days to get it activated, after that it was fine. We both bought new phone and have tried to ‘upgrade' from our old phone to the new ones while carrying over out minutes and old phone number. The web site is a joke for doing this. Each and every time it says that I have entered the wrong phone number of the serial number of the phone. This isn't even a option in the menu! You enter your existing serial number and it fills in the phone number (correctly). When you click submit it tells you that you have entered the incorrect phone number. Give me a break!!!I have spent MANY hours on the phone with the CS people. With both my wife and I listening we still couldn't understand the first two people that we tried to work with. The third person we talked with did get the minutes transfered to my phone but not the number. It currently sets there with no number in the phone.About 6th or 7th person we worked with got the minutes transfered over for my wifes phone and it has a NEW number in it, not the old number. We waited the 3 days they said it would take but no update to the old number. So now I have 4 Tracfones, 2 old ones, inactive, one new one the has 1900 minutes and no number. Also the Motorola W376g that has no number also seems to have a problem with signal strength. The other phones receive full signal strength any place in the house. The W376g gets one bar in some places in the house, even outside it does receive full bars/signal.While online with CS they put you on hold, you hear them laughing and talking, the microphone being pushed around making noise. For 15 or 20 minutes at a time you can scream into the phone, NO ANSWER. Am I going to continue with Tracfone. . . are you kidding me.

I am on my second Tracfone. The first one worked for 5 minutes until I tried to change the phone number with a Tracfone representative. Problem couldn't be resolved so they sent a 2nd phone. That phone never worked. I've spend more than 2 hours talking to these idiots who simply respond based on whatever is written in front of them regardless of whether it relates to the conservation. I have been more than patient, spoken to countless representatives and been ‘accidentally disconnected twice. I despise these people and will NEVER EVER EVER buy anthing from them again. In addition, I will make it my person mission to inform everyone who will listen that this company is hideous and unprofessional to deal with. Ahhh. I feel much better already.

Customer service is terrible. You wait for ever to talk to any body. Nobody seems to be able to speak English very well. Buying more minutes over the phone or different plan is horrible. They can't even process a credit card because their system keeps saying error. I'm fed up with this company.

I have been a tracfone customer for aprox 5 years on and off. This is probably my third Tracphone. I think overall the phone works well. The customer service is to be desired. I purchased a new phone 60 days ago. I has double minutes for life. That's why I switched from net 10. now everytime I bump the phone when it's on it switches to web browser and deducts minutes from my phone. I don't even use the web browser on my phone, never have. I have web service at home. If I keep the phone on for emergency's put in my pocket the thing gets bumped. What pain. Called customer service, no avail spoke with supervisor after 30+ minutes no help at all! Oh well, guess I'll use my minutes that I have left and send the phone to the recycling center!!!!!Good Luck Buyer Beware!!!!!

Sounds too good to be true? It IS too good to be true! Phone arrived on time, received case # for porting #. No deactivation of existing account for over a week. Called….spoke to minimal English competent person who stated they were in Belize. Phone connection was horrible – THIS from a cell phone company? I was calling from a landline. It sounded like this person was in a room with several thousand people all talking at once. They were CLUELESS. Asking for all my information again – Isn't it in your system? No – then how did you mail the phone in the first place? Your number should have been already ported. No, your information was flawed, we need the information again to restart the porting process. Her typing speed? I could hear her entering my data – simple name and zip code – click……click…….click…….hunt and peck has new meaning here…..this was AFTER I had to repeat myself about 3 times to get through basic number sequences and spelling.AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Save yourself a very irritating experience and STAY AWAY FROM TRACFONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The phone is back in the mail today for refund.

It is somewhat natural that you start writing these reviews when you had a bad experience. I had a bad experience with Net-10 (after switching from tracphone). By comparison tracphone simply works, Net-10 doesn't. The tracphones are a bit old fashioned, granted.

I've been using Tracfone for a little more than 4 years and I've been mainly happy with their service. Coverage area is pretty significant in Western NY with very few dead spots. I would give them 5 stars if it weren’t for a couple flaws:1. It is true that the CS is rather lacking, but I’ve only had to call them a few times in those 4 years and they have addressed all the issues I’ve ever had. It does take A LOT of patience to deal with them if the time ever comes.2. The choice of phones is boring. I’ve been content with the Motorola W260g for the last couple years, but I’m praying they get a phone out with a slider QWERTY board some time in this century.Bottom line, people, is that this is a cheap prepaid service that does what it’s designed to do. You buy a phone, set it up online, get an assigned number and you’re good to go. It’s easy to add minutes using an online account and they always roll over the unused ones. For as little as $10 a month to get a phone that makes calls and does texting, I guess you really can’t expect the world.

I started with Tracfone in thespring of 2000. Until then my need for a cell phone was nill. I developed a need for my ailing mother to be able to reach me. When I began my search Tracfone was the only option that did not require peering into my finacial staus of nailing me down to a contract just for the privilge of staying in touch. Iam still with them. I have moved into my th phone. I have great coverag, great service and instead of a monthly bill that would stun a horse …just to talk… I top it off whenevr I need to. I have had the same number since the beginning and I have turned a few of my friends on to it. They all swear by it. If you don't have the need to be seen with the latest and greatest gadget, then this is perfect. If you are not slavish addicted to constantly walking and talking then this is the perfect venue. Even though the models maybe be last seasons models, they all have the very latest technology. Camera, text capable, blu-tooth, internet after all it is just phone. I admit that it can be challenging to deal with customer service, I have dealt with companies whose customer service people spoke as I do their follow through and responses were dumbfounding. AHEM Comcast! However I find that a little patience and compassion with a little less attitude has benefitted me with extra minutes. After all no matter which customer service you contact,it is the only help you are going to get. Tracfone figured it out and they are the undisputed king of prepaid.

Tracfone is an excellent provider of prepaid cell phone service. I never had any issues with the type of cell phone that I have (which was given to me by a friend of mine). If I had any questions, I would get in touch with customer service by email, and they would answer my questions by the next day. I don't know why people are complaining about Tracfone's customer service. For those of you who don't feel comfortable communicating with them by phone, then it may be easier by email. I respect Tracfone, and they have millions of customers across the nation. For those of us who are loyal Tracfone customers, we're glad to not have any:monthly billsactivation feescancellation feesor hidden schemes.

Trust me. tracfone's customer service is is horrible. If you have any tech issues with your phone chances are that 20% of time it will be resolved. the ISSUES can range from tranfer number to a new phone or to just simply activating a phone. I have had so much trouble with them it's insane. You will be caliing there care service more then 3 times to try to fix something with themdo buy a tracfone because it will only cause them for there crapper company to grow. stay far away as you can and save yourself from frustration

tracfone is horrible, if there is someone out there luck enough to not already have 1 take my advice DON'Tnot only are they twice the price of other prepaid, their unreliable, their customer service is awful, even if you happen to be and indian and understand their language, they are no help, after having my phone for 2 weeks and spending a total of 6 hrs. on the phone they finally got it turned on and working right, i spent more money trying to get it turned on then i spent on the phone to begin with. they try to leave it on roaming so you can go through double the min. this cell phone company is running a SCAM… avoid this company

I’ve had a TracFone for over six years, as long as you never have to deal customer service in a major way it’s a great service. As soon as you have to deal with customer service with a serious problem it’s a nightmare, but I can go years with out a problem, and spend less than $100 a year on service that why I stay. I notice they are trying to get more things done on their web site this gives me hope. If you are a phone fiend, and have some need to change phones every year or less go somewhere else, if you are looking for cell phone service and view a cell phone as another means of communication and hold on to phones for years give TracFone a try.

Every time I phone tracfone, I get a message that they are too busy to talk to me, and to call back. They never reply to email either! This company stinks.

I saw Tracfone on a tv informercial in the middle of the night a few months ago and the thing that really made me interested in it, besides the double minutes for life, is that I could port/transfer my home phone number, which was Vonage, to my Tracfone. That made me happy because I was getting a cheaper phone and was able to keep my home phone number, so I never had to update bills with a new home phone. My tracfone is like a gophone I had, but I get a much better rate so I'm going to let go of the gophone as well. Now I've also got a Magic Jack which is only $19.95 annually, so I have 2 phones now and am very happy with them.

Phone works good if it works. Three months in a row I had to spend 45 minutes on the phone to try and get my minutes that I paid for. Customer Service is horrible. I asked to be compensated for my time and they said they could only give me 10 minutes. I never got the 10 minutes the first month. They did give them to me the 2nd month. Seems there are many problems that need to be worked out.
Consumer Review
The voice quality is good and the rates aren't too bad, but customer service is absolutely horrid even if you can understand who you're talking to! The last 3 times I've called a Tracfone rep., which is the last three times I've added minutes (which got fouled up by company and I did not receive the time I bought) I've spent up to 42 minutes per call waiting for someone to answer the phone and get the matter resolved. Even if you can wait that amount of time, the may not even get resolved! One rep says one thing and the next rep says something else. In the end, the company will win because they will hang up and you have to call back and wait another 30-40 minutes and try again. They win by attrition. Minutes will disappear and double minutes may work one time and not the next. The rep will have an excuse why it's not Tracfone's issue. I will switch company as soon as my minute expire. This is absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced!

I think that your customer service is terrible. I worked with 3 techs to discover the same thing I new from the beginning ( I needed a new phone)problem was my phone would never ring when a call came ( it would vibrate but never ring). I asked customer service would I have service while they sent me a new phone, he stated ‘yes' that was not true. I waited a week for my new phone to come(smiling now)call to activate and here it is 3 days later and my phone still isn't on. Every time I call in for service I get due to a high volume of calls at this time call us later. Here I am with 2 phones ( one I am to send back in 30 days)and neither one works. Oh yea not to mention I lose minutes setting up my voice mail. They vale me as a customer. Supervisor wasn't much help either.

Bought a Tracfone from Walmart that had a double minute for life promo and a 60 minute phone card. The phone worked for 5 days then quit. I called customer service and after 48 minutes of repeating my sim # and personal info was told a replacement phone would be sent that would allow me to keep the same #, transfer my minutes and include the dbl. minute feature. Received the new phone the next week and attempted to have it activated. I went through 3 customer service reps and was told my original phone had been inactivated so I could not keep the same # on the new one. Also was told the replacement phone did not come with the dbl. minute feature so I would not be able to have that. I had only used my original phone for 10 minutes, but was told they had no record of the minutes on my original phone since I had it inactivated(which I didn't) so I would need to buy another phone card for the replacement phone. I asked to speak to a supervisor but was told I did not need to. Was unable to get my phone inactivated. I emailed Tracfone about the problem with the replacement phone and was told they would be happy to assist me with activating my new phone but would have to call customer service in order to to it. I still do not have the replacement phone activated. I sent another email requesting info on where to send my original and replacement phones for a refund and have not yet received a response. I am considering contacting the BBB.

Have used tracfone for 4 years. Bought new phone and have many more than 25 calls trying to get it to work. All help comes from heavily accented poorly trained individuals. Call 800 876 5753 for ‘Corporate Help' same people only now in Florida. Been without service this time for three days. Rep keeps insisting it should work but does not. If they did not already have my money I would give up.DON'T USE TRACFONE!

I just recently purchased tracfone yesterday and so I am still new to it. However, one of the services i do not like is not being able to send an international text message. I mainly got the phone to be able to send international text messages and now I cant. They should really let you know if you will be able to send international texts before you buy the phone and the service for it. If I had the money, then I would go get a different phone through a different service provider right now. Other than that, the phone and service works fine and I havent had any problems with it yet.

This is my first online review, ever — but I thought I should warn against the frustrating and ineffective Tracfone customer service. It first takes 20 minutes minimum for the first English-challenged operator to take your basic information: name, address, phone #, etc. (there seems to be no basic data retrieval system); then you are put over to someone else who often goes through the same thing for another 20 minutes before addressing the problem. And trust me, there probably will be some sort of problem! An hour or more later, your problem may or may not have been resolved. Had terrific problems with porting my former # to Tracfone. Multiple lenghthy and extremely frustrating customer service calls. Still having other problems with monthly plan and I doubt they will be resolved without lots of time and hair-pulling on my end. Not worth the $ savings. Wish I had stayed where I was.

I was able to ditch my contract carrier and wanted a cheap and easy phone. I live in Chicago so I knew I would have luck with service. I bought a Motorola TF at Walmart with double minutes for life. I decided to not port my old number since I read horror stories. I went online, activated and signed up for a value plan all within minutes. I have a local number and all of my minutes (doubled) showed up instantly. I was surprised how easy it was and almost regretted not porting. However, with my long commute I could not afford to be without a phone. So far I am sold – everything works great!

I was told by the wal-mart sales person I would have Verizon service, but TracFone would not let me have it. I was put on ATT. which has poor service in this area . I learned this AFTER I bought TracFone This should be considered fraud, and I will ask the Texas Attourney General to look into it.

Let me give you some advice, having been a full -time Tracfone customer for 2 1/2 years, and now using that phone as a backup.1) Buy a phone with the double minutes already included. This benefit far outweighs the basic choice of phones. 2) If you are a light talker, buy the $19.99/60 minute card. With your double minutes you just cut your per minute cost from 34 cents/min to 17 cents per/m. I personally bought the $39.99/200 minute card, because the bonus 200 brought my per minute call charge to 10 cents. Look for bonus codes online or via e-mail if you give it to Tracfone. This saves more money, and the more you buy cards, the more often you seem to get the offer in e-mail.3) Texting. Double minute cards technically don’t affect the cost. But, and this is a good thing, SMS texting through services like YAHOO and MSN (through email addys) work great. Many other pay as you go monthlys do not offer this. Text messages incoming and outgoing are relatively fast.4) Motorola phones. Sure they are not the most modern, but by far the best ones to use. My first phone used the Verizon network, second used AT&T. No real difference on either. The occasional warble, but that’s why its cellular and not a land line.5) Customer service. They worked great when I upgraded from my old phone to new phone. I kept the same number, and my minutes transferred over with an extra year bonus added on. The second time was to port my number. Don't waste your time. It’s not going to happen without a major struggle. 6) Web access. Limited, highly limited. Just count it as a cheap bonus that you access whatever you can through their internal service, but don’t burn up minutes doing it. Same with downloads of ringtones or wallpaper.7) International Calls. Worked good, though the quality to Canada was iffy at times. Went through their 800 number to then call the number.I recently moved over to Cricket. I wanted the unlimited calling (including Canada), unlimited texting and web. My only regrets are the lack of SMS participation and the portability issue. I did keep the Tracfone though as a backup and for travel (cheaper than roaming charges if I buy a 60 minute card before the trip). Its good through 2013. BUT NOTE: You have to make a call for at least one minute every month or two months to keep your number active. Don’t forget this. It’s a pain to reactivate.Final review. Four Stars.Great for anyone who uses less than 800 minutes a month. The rollover factor is excellent as well, just buy a card every three months. Don’t overfill unless you have to in case you lose it, and don’t link your info to it online unless you need to. Best of all, cash at the store and you are set for minutes. No re-occurring charges or mistakes on billing. If they ever get a real Qwerty phone… I might come back to them full time.

We've used Tracfones for several years and have good luck. Customer service was great. But, we just got a new Tracfone. We tried to transfer our old number from our Tracfone to the new one….not good. Both the old phone and the new one stopped working. For a month I called, and called, and called having to re-explain the promblem over and over. I spent 1 to 2 hours talking with the techs or supervisors each time I called and was often put on hold for ‘just two minutes' while they checked on something or got their supervisor or manager. I received 3 Sim cards that were suppose to fix the problem, but none of the Sim cards would work. Finally after a month they sent a new phone which was a different model. After calling twice to activate it, it won't connect to the web to download ringtones. Grrrrr….I'm done with Tracfones and all the hassles.
Consumer Review
The incredibly inept customer service that Tracfone employees gave completely negates any positive features of the physical product. Don't be fooled by the formula, ‘feel good' phrases they rattle off in rote voices. In my experience, they can not complete even a simple task, much less provide satisfactory results to a problem, if it requires any thinking. All I needed to do was purchase additional minutes by phone using my credit card. The customer service rep gave me a sales pitch and sold me on $29.99 worth of time and special offers. I gave him my credit card details. However, even when the credit card company representative verified verbally and directly to Tracfone rep that the charges were approved, the Tracfone computer did not accept it and, therefore, would not sell me the minutes I needed. Over the course of two days (you have to wait 24 hours for the computer to process each request) I spoke to three Tracfone representatives (for a total of 45+ minutes)and one supervisor (for 10+ minutes. Not one, least of all the supervisor, was willing to even discuss ways to help resolve the situation. The best they could do was explain, in great detail, how the computer system worked and suggest I buy a prepay card at a store. Even after explaining that I had no way to get to a store and that, by this time, I was late to an international business teleconference, no one was able to even consider a way to help me. After more than an hour of frustrating conversation over the course of 2 days, they couldn't figure out a way to take my money much less provide the service they advertise. Who would want to rely on such a company??

My wife did not get her time, 1. I called they cannot understand English2. They state that she rec. it but I cannot see it nor is there a way to verify it on the phone.3. I was told that the verification messages can up to a couple of months (yes months) behind. 4. I asked what was on the phone before the update they stated they don't have that information.5. It is imposible that they do not have the information, if the Gvt. can find out who I called and when why can't they tell me how many min. were on the phone.I work for a major corp we do billions of transactions I suspect we record more transactions then tracfone has phone calls placed. I can find out when how much and who performed the transaction at the time any time I want why can't they do some even more simple as accounting.

My daughter has had a tracfone for 5 months. At first it seemed more or less fine. We got the minutes put on automatically each month. However, lately they have been charging my cc and she is not getting the minutes. Last month they were able to resolve it, but this month my husband was on the phone with them for over 2 hours with no resolution. We were also not able to set up voice mail. None of the codes and numbers they gave us ever worked. We will be going with a different company and I will be disputing the cc charge for this month. Terrible customer service! Also, there seem to be a lot of dead zones with this phone. It doesn't seem to work anywhere near her school–how lame is that?!

If there were a zero rating I would use it. This is the worst servie you could possibly get. Pure idiots.

I stay in the US for about 6 weeks in the winter, i just wanted a cheap phone that I could use while down here. The reason I went with tracfone is because of the international options. after getting the phone, it turned out that their ‘neighbours' plan to Canada had run out of numbers, and I couldn't use my Visa card to top up minutes on the phone because my billing address wasn't American. when I called their ‘free' help line, they were taking minutes off my time. This outfit may be good within the US, but their advertising is deceptive. My Visa was good enough to buy the phone and service, but of no use when I run out of minutes in the middle of the glades. Their service number works, but you may as well talk to the wall. I'm disappointed!

I activated my phone 90 days ago. I use it for calling home (so far) from sporting events. I love that I only have to top up around every 3 months(90 days). I just put a $20 top up card on my phone easly(I did it on the tracfone website). I have the Motorola W376g (it costed $20 on their website when I bought it and it has double minutes(which is very nice). I only buy the $20 top up card because I get 120 minutes and 3 months of service and if I lose my phone, I will only be out $20. Pretty nice! The only thing that I don't care for about Tracfone is their phone selection, but if you will only use it for emergencys or once in a while use and don't care about the look of the phone, defintly look into tracfone. I will give tracfone 4 stars because of their phone selection. I have at least 2 people that I know that are happy with tracfone.

I have used Tracfone for over 2 years now and have been pleased with the service, until now. I have purchased a new phone and am in the process of activating the new phone and transferring my number to the new phone. It has been 5 days and the new phone still cannot connect to the network. Message: ‘the service you are attempting to use is restricted or unavailable'. Several calls to Tracfone tech support, still not fixed.

If I could give a 0 for the rating of this phone then I would. This was the worst experience I have ever had trying to activate a cell phone. Once I activated the phone, I could not call out or recieve any calls. I got a Message that this was the American Roaming Service and if I needed to make a collect call. I went through 5 calls to Tracphone operaters trying to activate my phone, with calls lasting 45 to 90 minutes, with a ticket number and a assurance that I would be called on my land phone or emailed. Niether was done so I took my phone back to WalMart seven days later, Walmart tried to activate, treated same way! Walmart manager ageed this was ridiculous(they were on the phone for an hour)They refunded my money. If you buy a minutes card and put on the phone you lose those with no refund, even though you never got to use the phone. Your company to my knowledge is a sham and I will make sure to advise anyone to this fact. You have operators that are very kind but have no way to help, no technical department to solve problems or maybe it was just me and my Walmart store you couldn't help.

I would have given them ‘0' stars, but that wasn't an option. I was a previous Tracfone user… had service from 2004-2006 for myself and my husband but we had grown out of the plan. However, I had retained my phones and now wanted to activate one for my daughter to use while at school…. In two days time I spoke to 10 different people, all who gave me different directives and promises. SlumDog – I've not seen it, but I think I know what the previous post meant. The difficulty in communication alone made me feel as though perhaps this wasn't the Co. I wanted to so business with, but, I had the phone so I persevered. Until an hour ago (10:00pm est) when I was told for the 10th time that I needed to wait again 24-48hrs b/c they could not ‘find' me an operable telephone number!? That was it – I had had enough. I demanded a refund and after ANOTHER hour – I got it. Now, I am going to take my business to www.iwirelesshome.com – check it out. They have a great deal. I will have to buy a new phone – but heh, it will be a cool flip phone like my daughter wanted anyway. AND the customer service people are based in the USA!! Go USA.

I bought a new LG 600 tracfone and switched my minutes and phone number over to it from my old tracfone. Everything went fine except my old phone number does not show up on the phone- a different number shows up on the phone. People stil call me using my original number which is great-I just wish the phone did'nt show the wrong number. After waiting 72 hours after I switched the phone number and airtime I called customer service and was told to zero out the number on the phone and input my original number-I have found no way to do this-If anyone knows how to correct this problem I would greatly appreciate your posting it here. I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to.

Tracfone is pretty good. However, I wish they had up-to-date phones. I want a touch-screen but they don't even have a keyboard type phone. The servce is fine, but sometimes I can't hear the other person that well. I got service practically everywhere I went. I have been with Tracfone for 5 years now. It has done it's job, but I am ready to move on. Iwould like to get the Samsung Finesse from Straight Talk.

I was happy with my phone until it was time for me to purchase more minutes to keep it activated. Almost from the moment I did so ($100!) I could not here the caller so stopped using the phone. I called ‘customer service' twice which by the way, if you've seen Slumdog Millionaire you've got the picture. There IS no customer service…if you have a REAL problem. I was told I could transfer the minutes I just purchased onto a new phone online or through ‘customer service'. I will report back and let you know if that was successful or not. I am praying the company has at least an OUNCE of decency and that they don't lie. HA HA. My fingers are crossed.

I lost my tracphone and after spending about four hours with their customer service on the phone over a few days, I just gave up on getting a new one activated. The last time I tried, the lady kept putting me on hold ‘for just another 2 minutes' and finally she just stopped coming back on the line so after about 15 minutes I hung up. They just do not care.

This company is AWFUL. If nothing goes wrong, it provides a good deal. But if there IS ever a problem, its employees will stonewall, delay, pretend that nothing can be done, make empty promises to call back or take other actions, and generally never seriously address what is wrong. Every time you contact the company you must start over again from the beginning trying to explain an issue, regardless of whether you have e-mail records, case numbers, agents names, or anything else.We lost a Tracfone with a huge number of prepaid minutes on it (silly us). We immediately informed Tracfone and bought a replacement, transferring the minutes to the new phone. So far, so good. But a few months later, someone must have found the old phone and Tracfone apparently let that person shut down our new phone (thereby causing us huge immediate problems) and transfer the minutes back to the old phone! The person was apparently even allowed to breach our online account as their personal information ended up mixed with our information! It took literally multiple hours per day over much more than a month, multiple provisions of proof that we are the rightful owners of the account and had purchased both the phones and minutes, to get the new phone reactivated and the minutes returned to our use. Whenever we provided what we had been told was the last additional necessary information, the company failed to acknowledge receipt. We were forced to yet again run the gauntlet of the company's awful call center, only to be given a newly invented requirement before anything could be done. These were increasingly ridiculous. At one point we were told to send a scan of the back of the OLD PHONE to the company that was not in our possession!!! In the end, Tracfone acted as if restoring the minutes and replacing lost service days was generous compensation for our upset and huge investment of time and effort getting the situation resolved. This whole experience was so awful that we filed a complaint with the FTC. I've since seen similar stories on the Web other places. We are now just trying to use up the minutes so we can get away from this terrible company. My advice: STAY AWAY FROM TRACFONE.

I would actually go with 4 1/2 only because the net browsing is limited. I have had Tracfone since 2000 and love them. My tip to everyone is that the Motorolas they sell are MUCH better than the other brands. I have only had one non-Motorola phone with them and it was horrible for reception and sound quality a lot like the problems the samsung users were describing. I switched back to the Motorola and have been problem free since then. I mostly use this for texting and it is so much cheaper than contracts I really can't complain ( about 3 cents/min with dbl minute card) I have never had any problems with their tracking of my minutes or customer service – its better than what I've gotten with my computer's CS! I just wish they would unlock the browser so I could use Facebook!

Purchased a month several months ago. Activated online and waited, after several hours, no service. Decided to give them 24hrs, no service. Called customer service, they didn't know what the error code meant. (I don't expect them to remember every code, but don't they have a list to look it up on.)After speaking for a while with the rep, trying to explain to them that I know what the problem is, they did not give me a local number, the rep told me that it is because the phone is defective and she would send me a new one. Then gave me a case number. I waited three days, went online to check shipping time, put in the case number, nothing came up. Called customer service again. Rep told me that I did not have a case number, and they had no record of the call. Had to explain the problem over again to him. He then tells me that he is going to send me a new phone. Gives me a case number (which does look completely different in structure to the first ‘case number' I recieved)and so I wait a few days again. Log in to the website to track my shipment, the case number works, but it says that the issue is that phone needs to be reprogrammed. I would have been fine if this was true, but phone still doesn't work, and just get the runaround from customer service. I think they could have saved themselves and me a lot of agravation if they had just deactivated my phone, sent me a code for my minutes, and reactivated the phone with a local number. Then it would have worked….probably. And i am not even going to try and figure out how I was recieving blank text messages which were taking minutes off my time even when I did not open them. Weird thing is, I know for a fact that other people have gotten great service from them. In my own household, no less!

Surprised to find out after purchasing a ‘lemon' that my days were reduced from 137 to 60 when I returned the phone. Had purchased the phone to make airport connections. Didn't happen. Noone could hear what I was saying. Disappointed about return. They advertise –no contracts, no bills, no surprises. –Not so on the surprises.

I've been a customer since 2001. I gave up my expensive phone for a more reliable no contract service. I love the service under ground and above ground (when the expensive service didn't work) I love the fact that my friends spend $200 to $700 monthly and wait for the weekend to talk unlimited. I purchased a double min for life card one time and spend $60 a year and have extended service until 2017 so far. I love the phone and now wish to upgrade to a touch screen by tracfone! I don't answer the telemarketers and I am not charged. I talk to my daughter who lives 4000 miles from me every other day. The phone works for what you want it for. If you need the web atlot you will pay for the web. If you talk allot you should get a double min card one time and purchase an 800 min card as needed. Its still less than the expensive phones per month. I rate this company and the phone highly because it works for me and what I do. If the phone doesn't work for you don't buy the phone. I've even changed the minds of some Verizon solicitors who keep trying to get me to change prepaid services. No other service can beat tracfone service plans. They are perfect for me and several members of my family.

Service has been good to me, my wife, etc. They use two different wireless carriers: AT&T and T-Mobile. I get great coverage with AT&T where I live and work. The last phone I had was on T-Mobile and it's coverage was terrible at work and at home. Customer Service pretty much sucks. I asked them to change my phone number and minutes to a new phone on 12/28/2009. Didn't happen. Called today, 01/04/2010 and got a new phone number with all my minutes transferred and my new phone minutes and airtime added. The Rep said the last call was logged as an inquiry so she wouldn't give me the Double Minutes For Life that was supposed to be on new phone. I explained to her I had to keep service going on old phone because they didn't do what I asked and I expected my DMFL for the airtime I added YESTERDAY. Didn't get it. Not worth the fuss but still it's the principle. Their Customer Service people can spend hours on the phone, hang up (on purpose or accidentally?), log the call as inquiry and go on to the next call. I could have done the same crap in 5 minutes or less. I gave the guy plenty of time on hold on the 28th while he consulted his ‘supervisor' but he finally lost me. Now if I could just get rid of that web browser issue on the new phone I'd be great. I already accidentally accessed their web and lost time. If you do this just close up the phone and it will cut off the web access!

I got a Motorola C261 in Jan 2007. I paid 99.00 for the 1 year plan. In Jan 2008 I got the 1 year plan again, but this time with the bonus double min. for life. I just this week- Jan 2010- upgraded to the new LG410G- All my min. rolled over, I got to keep my old number, and did everything online with no problems. The phone coverage is better than my husband's AT&T Samsung Solstice. I've gotten great coverage in Ms, La, Al, Tx, Fl,Tn, Nv, Ny, and Ca. It costs me 8.00 a month, opposed to my husband's 59.00 a month bill. This is a great deal if you want basic phone service.

Unreal…Just purchased this Tracfone and I decided to get the 1yr 800 minute card along with 200 bonus minutes (1000) after charging my phone for the first time and never making even one call, I go to check how many minutes I have (should be 1000) and according to this I only have 672 minutes remaining??? How could this be? I called customer service and they are insisting I must of forgotton all the calls I have made…WHAT????? Where did 328 minutes go to?? After telling them that I just purchased the time and it was less that 328 minutes ago (roughly 5.5 hours) They said I was wrong ???? HELLO McFly…What kind of crack are you doing??? This company is for the birds…….

After activating my Traccfone, I was still unable to make/receive calls 5 days later. I spent at least an hour on my home phone and submitting email requests for assistance. Their tech support is abysmal. I finally took it back to the store for a refund but am still trying to get a refund for the $29.99 airtime card I bought with the phone. BEWARE! These people will take your money and run.

Tracphone is a good deal for someone who uses a cell phone only occasionally. Just hope you never need customer service. I have spent more than one hour of my minutes trying to reach them; their website is no help at all. Fine as long as you don't need anything from them.

Looking to cut costs. My Boss has TracFone and likes his, so thought I would try it. Got my Samsung T101G at Family Dollar for $10.00. It was a kit with a case, car charger, wall charger and double minutes for life, with 20 bonus minutes upon activation. 3 text messages for 1 minute of air time. I was able to activate on line, no problem. It gave me a local number. So far, so good. After reading many of these negative reviews though I am glad I haven't severed my ties with Verizon. My husband and I have a family plan with them and he needs his phone for his business. Will see how it goes with TracFone. Since I bought a 30 minute card online for $9.99 I am only out $20 bucks if this proves to have been a mistake. I have until 3-30-2010 for the minutes to expire.

TracFone offers no service.I lost my TracFone cellphone and called them to find out if someone else found it and was using my minutes. Since I haven't had my TracFone for several weeks, any outgoing calls certainly weren't coming from me.I gave them my name, phone number and serial number, and they wouldn't help me at all. They told me to call the police. And to make matters worse, you can only talk to some foreigner with a heavy accent. I got the impression he only understood every other word I said.POOR, POOR, POOR SERVICE.I won't be buying another TracFone, that is for sure.

Customer service is THE WORST. Every time I have added more minutes, it takes about a half hour of me inputting a couple of dozen 12 digit codes into a land line phone, read to me by the almost impossible to understand ‘customer support' person. Then, the phone might work, or it might not. How they stay in business is a mystery. STAY AWAY FROM TRACFONE.

A year ago I purchased a Trac Fone starter kit (Motorola W260g) from Circuit City for $13.00. It came complete with all the accessories which I really liked for the price. It was a breeze to set up and I added a 60 minute card to my account on Trac Fone's website just to get started. After a month I added a 1 Year/Double Minutes/800 Minutes card which included 100 bonus minutes with a promo code. I have just added a 1 Year/400 Minute card (800 minutes w/ the Double Minutes) plus I got an additional 250 minutes with a promo code. Combined with my unused rollover minutes this will keep me going thru 2010.I usually only use this phone when I'm out of the house, about town or traveling around Texas and I am amazed at the great reception this phone gets even in remote areas such as canyons and valleys. The Verizon SAMSUNG contract phone I used before had little or no reception in the same remote areas. I have never had to call customer service as I use Trac Fone's website to get all the info I need and answer any questions.I would suggest to anyone thinking of buying a Trac Fone that they study all of the available models, features and the reception area maps for those models on Trac Fones website before buying. GSM phones for example incur no roaming charges. I love this very basic but reliable phone and recommend it to anyone who wants a inexpensive non-business cell phone for regional travel and emergencies.

I have used Tracfone for three years. On the two occasions I have needed customer service, they were helpful and not too difficult to understand. For someone who doesn't need ‘bells and whistles' and doesn't use a lot of minutes, TF works just fine. We had T-Mobile before TF, and their coverage was terrible comparatively.

i bought tracfone to use from my home. it is suppose to connect from anywhere there is service, right? there is service with I live, on the verizon tower. AFter i spent 35 dollars for this phone, i learn that i cannot use it at home, since the phone only connects to att towers. lost money, can't use the phone when i want to at home. the box said it would have mobile web, what it doesn't say until you open it and read the papers is that you have to pay and subscribe to mobile web on tracfone. the box says bluetooth, and shows that is has a usb, you think that you should be able to connect to the computer and save your info or pictures that you can take on your phone, no you connot connect to your computer by usb or bluetooth at all! Don;t buy the motorola w376g tracfone at all. a waste of money, when you can buy a 15 dollar phone somewhere else.

I have used this service for about 9 years. I don't talk much so paying for a real plan seems a waist. I am very happy and have not had any real problems with customer service. I have transferred numbers.I even lost my phone once and customer service was able to transfer my number and the minutes I had on the old phone to the new one.We currently have three phones in our family and it is much less expensive than a national plan.We all have Motorola phone. I rarely get dropped calls the coverage is very good. The people who complained about the cost of minutes Net 10 (owned by Tracfone)gives 10 cent minutes.

I've used Tracfone for several years and I love not having an expensive contract. I'm not a high-usage person. I have the plan where I can add minutes directly from my phone when I need more. I don't use my phone for the web, so I haven’;t needed a ‘high tech' phone. The customer service is a little like Russian ruoulette. Sometimes they can help and sometimes all you get is putting in a whole bunch of codes, turn the phone off, take out the battery, etc. Overall, I will stay with Tracfone & won't dare go to a contract phone.

We recently activated two TracFones. I choose to utilized the web based activation process for both cell phones, it worked very smoothly. Even in the situation where I ported my cell phone number from Verizon , that transfer went smoothly. I did use the customer service once to ask a question about roaming charges. The client representative was clear and concise with her response. Thus far, both cell phones have operated smoothly, reception on long distance calls is clear and we have no problem with connectivity. It meets, our needs for the limited use we have of a cell phone. Even with two cell phone, our year long purchased minutes was considerably less than our single cell phone contract

I’ve been using TracPhone for only 6 months, but the service has been problem-free. Yes, the customer service is obviously located in India. Nevertheless, I did not encounter a language barrier when I needed to transfer the service to a new area code and have my phone programmed with a new number. Although the process involved entering lengthy sequences of numbers, I was guided logically through each step.Since I am just a very occasional user of the service, TracPhone’s $6.00 a month service protection plan serves my needs perfectly. The plan allows you to keep all unused minutes each month for this minimal monthly fee. Any particular plan or the entire service can be cancelled at any time without incurring penalties. No contracts…no hassle. Works for me.

I have a Tracfone, and both of my kids have a Tracfone. We are all very satisfied with our phones. I love that the units always roll over when you add more airtime. These work out perfect for our lives as none of us use them to talk to people constantly. I carry mine in case the kids or my husband need to get ahold of me, and the kids use their phones to let me know when they're ready to be picked up from school. I have a camera phone w/double minutes for life–in addition to that, I always find a coupon code for even more free minutes. My kids have a more basic phone, but they get free incoming texts with it. Overall, I appreciate how affordable these phones are to us. Our phones have always worked fine.

Your review is outdated — Tracfone does offer mobile web service. The problem is actually getting it. Been a Tracfone customer for ten years and decided to update my phone. Bought a camera phone slider online. The info received with it said to push the browser button and the phone would connect. No troubleshooting tips in case it doesn't, and customer service has no clue. Made eight attempts to resolve the issue, wasted more than a month and hours on the phone — still no mobile web service. I have to agree with several of the earlier reviews. They are fine and inexpensive as long as everything works, but forget about customer service or trying to resolve problems.

Just what formula does Tracbone use to calculate minutes? I made a 3 minute call and 12 minutes were deducted from my balance. When I called them, they told me I must have made 12 minutes of calls, such an error was ‘impossible.' I can count, I can manage my minutes, I even speak clear English in case that matters, and one 3 minute call cost me 12 minutes. This after the phone failed to set up in accordance with the instructions and calling Tracbone (in India) wasted over an hour of my time and another 10+ minutes testing their failed instructions. And now, with no prompting from me, the phone is showing ### on the display and nothing will clear it. I am the hell out of here, changing phones and service today, and I'm not happy.

I have t-mobile, but bought a tracfon for $18 from a drugstore just because I was curious about the service. I do not use it often, since I have tmobile as my primary service, but, I have never had a problem with it when I have used it, either in the midwest or on the east coast. Sure, the tracphon is a real basic clunky phone, but it does work, and adding more minutes from a card bought at a chain drugstore has been easy. People's complaints about the service shock me. When I first got the phone, custoemr service was terrible via phone. Now, it has improved.

Tracfone didn't work for me. I bought an LG 410 at Walmart (which used AT&T lines). I ported my number online which took less than one hour. The incoming audio was garbled. I went online and purchased an LG 600 (which used T-Mobile lines). Porting my number was a little more difficult (I had to call CS and punch in several lengthy codes, but it was still realatively painless). Several phone calls later everyone told me my voice was garbled. I decided to cut my losses and went with Verizon pay-as-you-go. I average 120 minutes a month and even with the upfront .99 cents a day I will pay less than Tracfone unless I talk more than 20 days a month. Even if I exceed that it will be cheaper than my monthly service (with a contract) I had with Verizon.

Bought a LG600 and went online to have my existing wireless number ported from another carrier to my new TracFone. Instead of porting my wireless number they ported my land line. I lost use of my home phone (which supports a business)and internet for a week (during the Christmas season) while the number was ported back. I was totally frustrated in trying to get any escalation of the problem and the whole mess has poisoned me to TracFone. I had the same problems as many on this site, hard to understand customer service people and continuous transfering the call to other people. After all was said and done they would not even consider paying shipping costs of the phone back to them. If that is the way they treat their customers, I am grateful to have found out early on. I cannot in good concience recommend TracFone to anyone.

I loved the prepaid concept, the phone works great in remote areas, the calls are clear not a lot of drops, BUT and this is a BIG BUT!!! we had originally purchased the phone and a year package with the double minutes, the minutes ran out, we went and bought another 60 minutes that was doubled to 120, then all of a sudden the minutes when from 100 to 37 OVER NIGHT, I called the customer service number and spent 45 MINUTES on the phone with a Jamaican non English speaking person! who kept asking me if I could peeese ole free mor min! VERY frustrating the hour I wasted was the 20 in cost for the time and about how much I make an hour! I finally just told them to shove it and hung up, SO great when actually making calls but HORRIBLE if you actually need to call customer service, and since its prepaid why should they care they already have your money MON!

I have never had a cell phone before, so I can't compare Tracfone to other plans, but I'm a very happy customer. My LG 290c phone is a BEAUTIFUL phone, with lots of wonderful options that I'm having fun with. Customer service haas been excellent so far- I've just had to deal with some minor glitches in setting up my phone. Both Indian customer service reps were very easy to understand- their accents were very mild. I have mild hearing loss, and strong accents make it almost impossible for me to understand, so I was pleasantly surprised.Because I don't hear well, the reception is important, and again, I've been pleasantly surprised. The sound quality is as good a my landline. The speakerphone also has excellent quality. From the research I've done, it looks like with double minutes for life, and promotional bonus minutes codes, minutes run at about 10 cents a minute. But I noticed that there's a web exclusive that gives 1500 minutes for $199.99, which with DMFL ends up being 6.67 cents per minute. I don't need that many minutes, but even the lowest 3 month card at $19.99 for 60 minutes with DMFL and a 30 minute promotional code comes out to 13.3 cents a minute, which isn't terrible.I am probably only going to use this phone for emergencies when on the road, but it's been so much fun, I might end up using it more than I should!

TracFones dont have too bad of a price but i dont recommend them at all. Ive had 5 from there company and they really manage when it comes to ripping people off.BAD:- the minutes go fast.- the SIM card was messed up on mine after 12 days and it almost erased everything on my phone.- occasionally, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU TO SEND A TEXT (.3 minutes) say it went through, and it WONT GO THROUGH. than, you SEND IT AGAIN, IT STILL CHARGES YOU .3 MINUTES, and all you can do is hope for it to work, because I have spent 10 minutes trying to send one message.- the phones themselves arent all that great. theres one slider available and no full keyboards.-the texting is slow. I have the Motorola W376g currently, and Im a fast texter, it stays about 8 letters behind me and on top of that, i text so fast that it will mess the letters up that I type.-NOT durable. my dog who is a mini schnauzer stepped on it without his claws and it dented.good-they will send you a new SIM card.-no contract.-enexpensive to buy there phones.-some have cameras-they have great battery power. let it charge when you sleep, and its good for 3 days straight.-they ARE working phones. if you need something simple for just when you travel or to only text every so often, than this will be a great phone for you.

Customer service-wise (bearing in mind that ‘customer service' has been a ‘challenging' concept for YEARS in ALL industries), I've emailed or called maybe 2-4 times for missing minutes on a purchased card (I add airtime online now, and it's so much easier) or to ask a question about transferring numbers to new phones: that's where the fun started! I always seemed to get ‘Tonia' — who has read and been trained to repeat the script, and boy did she! OMG! Could that get on a person's nerves? OH YEAH! I still haven't activated the new phone, because the more I think about, the more the old Nokia suits me. Cameras, web surfing and all that in a phone are a bit too much, especially when all I wanna do is make a CALL! I can text, and the minimal features I do have are just fine. I'll probably end up recycling the unactivated phone just because. I may upgrade later on in life, but I'm not a serial texter or long-winded talker and phones–whether they look cool or not, have bells & whistles or not–are a necessary evil, so since I don't have to pay astronomical amounts a month for cell service–good cell service, incidentally–Tracfone is all right with me.

I've had my LG220C tracfone for three weeks and it's better than my Verizon phone. It gets good reception when I'm traveling and the battery lasts a week without a recharge. Verizon's phone needed recharged pretty much every time I used it. I've had no issues with their CS either. It's just a great phone with plenty of features. Wow $20 at Wal Mart including double minutes for the life of the phone.

This company is a pure money-grabbing scam. More than 10 hours spent over 2 weeks trying to get them to activate my phone, to no avail. They tell you you have to wait, then call back, then punch in some codes, then wait 24 more hours, then call back… phone is and has always been deader than a doornail. The script-reading reps in India have no clue how to fix a problem. I assume it's well worth Tracbone paying them each 12 cents a day to pretend to provide customer service for the suckers tossing their money at this scam company. $50 thrown away that I could have better spent tossing it on the street.

To hear your voicemail without using your minutes.try using a home phone and dial your mobile number but don't answer the call. press star (*) when you hear your greeting and then it will ask for your 4 digit pin.

Trac fone purposely sends calls to your voice mail ao that you have to answer to know who called you, thereby using minutes. You miss the getting calls that might have been an emergency call. This is a frighting situation.

love my tracfone – text, browser, camera, ringtones and best of all i love the payment plan – so easy to buy minutes when needed. however, the network SUCKS. my friends on verizon or sprint have service all the time but i loose service nightly going from the elevator to my apartment. sometimes the service comes right back; sometimes i have to go outside to get service. when i spent a month last summer 110 miles from where i live, the only way i could get service was to climb up on the roof of the house. can't depend on this phone and would love to switch to verizon but nothing beats tracfone's payment plan.
