love my tracfone – text, browser, camera, ringtones and best of all i love the payment plan – so easy to buy minutes when needed. however, the network SUCKS. my friends on verizon or sprint have service all the time but i loose service nightly going from the elevator to my apartment. sometimes the service comes right back; sometimes i have to go outside to get service. when i spent a month last summer 110 miles from where i live, the only way i could get service was to climb up on the roof of the house. can't depend on this phone and would love to switch to verizon but nothing beats tracfone's payment plan.

Tracfone offers very cheap service and non existent customer service. When you eventually have a problem you will spend approximately 6 hours on the phone being told how sorry Tracfone is, entering codes and relaying codes and then being told you have no complaint that the phone is working. I have had Tracfone for 2 years now and I'm switching ASAP, I paid for service, the phone was not updated and Tracfone continues to tell me the minutes were added, I've finally given up.

Agree with the ones that say as long as your phone is ‘in service', it's fine. I bought a $20.00 airtime card to add the day before my current airtime was to expire. I did this online, and it showed on the tracfone website that my minutes were added, however, the minutes did not show up on my phone. Then a screen on my phone said ‘prepaid service disabled'. So, not only did they take my $20.00, but gave me no extra minutes, and turned off my cell service. I called customer service, to be told (by someone barely able to speak english), that my phone's one year warranty had run out, and i had to purchase another phone. I asked her ‘why did the website accept an airtime card for a phone that was about to expire?'. I received NO notice of an impending expired warranty, yet they were more than happy to accept my $20.00, giving me nothing in return. What a ripoff.

I have had 3 phones in 2 years. One did not allow me to make calls or receive calls, one showed the ‘call failed' message after every call I attempted. The phone I have now works OK. I was emailing pictures from the phone to my email address (because the phone I have does not have the capability of downloading to my PC). After many succcessful emailed pics, I got a message that said ‘capacity full'. I called CS and spent 4 hours on the phone, even speaking with a supervisor. Every rep I spoke with told me my phone does not have this capability!!!! I explained to them MANY times that it does because I used it. Finally someone understood and supposedly filed a report with the corporate office in Miami. Problem was supposed to be fixed within 48 hours. That was 5 weeks ago, still cannot email. I suppose I will call the corporate office myself and hope I speak with someone who speaks understandeable English. 1/4 of the original 4 hours was me asking the rep to repeat because I could not understand what they were saying. I also got disconnected 2 times and had to start over each time I called back. The rates are definitely good, but customer service is pathetic. I will eventually switch to another company, probably after the holidays.

I have had trac phone for over 3 yrs works great same phone since i started with trac phone ive had no problems activating or adding airtime & minutes! I just do it all online & my minutes are on my phone within minutes!! So if you are looking for a phone for emergencys or just for basic use i think this is a great plan! I usually buy the 1yr airtime with 450 minutes(have the double mins card, so i get 900 mins) & that will last about 1 yr then i buy it again! SO about $90 yr for my plan! Great deal for me!

Tracfone is a rip off. Say you buy a 30 minute card. They charge you for sending and opening texts. Not to mention the minutes fly out the window really fast. And their cards are expensive. And their phones aren't nice.

Amount of units used for text messages depends on the model of the phone!I've been a loyal customer since the early 2000's and was pretty pleased with the cost considering tracfone's basic service offerings, but…I recently upgraded from a Motorola c139 (.33 units to send txt messages, free to receive) to a new motorola w175g and was dismayed to find out that the new phone actually cost more to operate than my older one (.50 units to send txt messages, and .50 units to receive them!) I'm very disappointed with this price of operation since I actually text more than I call, and am considering switching back to my older phone that was much cheaper to use.And the worst part about it is I am charged .50 units per spam message from tracfone themselves! And when I send a message to a non-existent number not only was I charged .50 units to send it, but I was also charged .50 units to receive the ‘error' message the sent back to me. Ludicrous!

Where to begin? I have had used Tracfone for years with my original no frills phone which still works fine and I gave that one to my daughter.I then purchased the LG600 which was recommended by them for my zip code. The phone has terrible reception and the customer service rep told me that the phone does not work properly in my area. I told him that it was recommended to me by Tracfone and he told me sorry, and that I should use a Samsung or Motorola for my area. I then asked if I could return it and he said yes but I would have to pay for the return. I then asked to speak to his supervisor who did a lot of ‘back pedaling' regarding my issue. In the interim they sent me 2 replacement phones, the first of which was defective and the second one was an old LG model. Well, 12 representatives and over 10 hours of phone calls later. I finally was at the end of processing the return when the representative told me her system was down and that I would have to call back to end the process. As I type this I have been on the phone with what I hope is the last representative. He is trying to ‘finalize' my being able to return the phone. God only knows if they will ever refund my money. While the price may be better than contract phones the hassle is a complete nightmare. I will never go with Tracfone again no matter how good the price is. If you don't have any issues it's great but the chance that you won't is nil. Save your precious time and stay away from Tracfone!!!!!!!!!

The phones are fine, the coverage is quite good. But I only need and use a cell for emergencies or very occasional calls and this is where the problem lies. They give you 90 days to use the time and if the 90 days ends and you don't reload minutes(even though you still have minutes)they shut down the service AND the phone number!! For the very occasional user like me, you're just screwed. You're forced to either load more time that you don't yet need or lose the whole deal. This isn't right.

I wanted to switch my land line to trac, some said yes some said no, some said I needed to buy 2 phones some said it will take 30 days some said no. I tried emailing and they gave me the same 800 number to call. Tracphone had better uprade their service because I said NO.

Happy Customer. I've had 4 different Tracfones. Every time Customer service was helpful. Language barriers yes, but I transferred numbers 3 times, called customer service several times, all successfully: having Bonus minutes added, Changing area codes, Exchanging a Sim Card ( twice recieving it within 4 days). The price is reasonable. The ‘double minutes for life' of the phone was transferred a new phone. Altho difficult to understand customer service at times, they do read from a script. English IS their second language. What other languages are most American's fluent using? lol I'm staying with Tracfone. NIce phone selection. I have a camera, can access the web, costs only $29. and had some minutes with it.

I loved my Tracfone for so long, and never understood the problems people spoke of. Then I needed help from Customer Service because I had dropped my cell and destroyed the screen. I purchased a new phone, exact same model. Called to have everything transferred over, especially my double minutes and the service date (which had extended into 2011 because of all the cards I had added over the years). They couldn't do it. I'm not going to slam Customer Service. The woman did not have access to the number of minutes on my account nor the service date. ? She did not have the information in her computer! How is she supposed to provide ‘customer service' without the most important information? Needless to say, I don't have my double minutes for life and I don't have all my minutes. I bagged the service and returned the phone. Unfortunate for them to lose good customer because of this incompetence (or willful neglect).

I bought my first cell phone to use when traveling. the first time I traveled, my phone came up Emergency Only. I was in Los Angeles. The only help Tracfone customer service would give was to tell me I must have been out of range of a tower. Everywhere in LA. Once I returned home, the phone worked again. They then said there was nothing they could do while it worked. Their brilliant advice: the next time I traveled and the phone didn't work, I should call them. I assured them that I would–from another company's phone.

Good phone, inept customer service.1 year, 400 minute card at SAM's Club $94. This is an emergency phone, rarely used, so after 3 years and 3 annual 400 minute cards and many renewal bonus minutes, I have over 2,200 minutes as I near the fourth year. Less than $8 a month! My first phone number had a prefix for another county, making me a long distance call for my neighbors! I called to request a local number, and they (India) kept reading from a script that ‘my AREA code had changed.' No, no, no: I want a number with the correct local PREFIX. On and on for 40 minutes to make them understand. They promised to send a new SIM card. It didn't arrive, and I forgot about it. Then, A YEAR AFTER I CALLED , the new SIM card arrived!!! The date on the form was from the date I called them! After I changed the number, I received many drunken calls in the early morning from guys wanting to hook up with a very popular lady.At one annual renewal I keyed in a Bonus code which wasn't accepted, and there was no way to back out of the menu. I called customer service after I was done to get help, and they said there was nothing they could do.Yet, I will buy another TracFone and try to transfer my number and minutes, because $8 a month gives me all the minutes I need.

As for the use and the service area of the Trac Fone we use, it works ALMOST every where and we have had few problems. The problems we have had were never resolved. Example: When we upgraded to a new phone. Like most people on here there was a lack of understanding each other because of the language barrier. So frustration quickly takes over. We never were able to get the number we had tried to transfer. We had to use a number they gave us and for months we kept getting the person who had the number previous to us, all his phone calls. Which of course we lost minutes talking to them which the minutes never got returned to us. It was explained (I think if I heard correctly) that since we answered the phone we had to be charged. Once also we tried to get new minutes over the phone thinking they would help us, but wwe got dissconnected EVERY time. Our minutes went to zero. So we never did get our new minutes or the old ones replaced due to their inability. But we keep using it because it is the only one we have ever tried and most of the time we have no problems. It seems if you DO HAVE A PROBLEM…forget fixing them with a phone call. It won't happen.

Wow! From all the other reviews, looks like TracFone is either do or die! For me, it is ‘do'! Very pleased with the phone and service. I actually have 5 prepaid phones right now … doing a semi-scientific comparison of the different plans … two TracFones, Net10, Virgin Mobile. and T-Mobile. TracFone has offered the best coverage and features … can use Google Voicemail with TracFone, they have international calling included, use AT&T network (where I am), with double-minute phone just 10 cents/minute. One TracFone is $40 LG600G, other is dirt-cheap $15 Motorola. Both work just fine, good coverage even in semi-remote areas.

I bought a tracfone for my 16 year old son, he used it for a while then the screen went out. I called tracfone, they said if I bought another tracfone they can transfer the number and minutes remaining ($90) on the old phone. Bought a new tracfone, called them back and they sent out a new sim card to transfer the # and minutes. 2 weeks pass, the new card is received but doesn't work. Called tracfone 3 times. Got 3 different people, each call took over an hour and no-one spoke english well enough to address the problem. Yes, I explained to each one that the sim card doesn't work. Oddly enough, they seemed to know that before I told them. The supervisor they escalalated my call to assured me a new ‘compatible' sim card would be sent out that day. That was 6 weeks ago, almost 8 weeks total and I'm stuck with 2 phones that don't work – both with inactivated sim cards thanks to tracfones customer service. I'm also out $90 + the cost of the new phone. Filed a report with the BBB, and my complaint will simply join the thousands of complaints filed under tracfone. This company is not worth the cost or aggravation. My best advice – go with another carrier. I found there's plenty of pre-paid plans based in the USA that accomplish the same job with a h*** of a lot less aggravation.

I like that I get all the service and minutes I need for half what I was paying for a contract service. I miss having a good quality camera in my phone, but otherwise I would recommend this phone. I've had good service transfering numbers and minutes from one phone to another, took about 5 minutes on the phone to customer service. I'd recommend it as an economical, cost effective phone

I have been a Tracfone user for five years but that does not get me diddly. And my Tracfone is my only telephone. Yesterday I tried to switch to a new Tracfone cell phone. Now neither my new phone nor old phone function. I was able to contact a representative who I think was learning to speak English. He told me they had an error problem that would take forty eight hours to fix. When I tried to call them today I get a recorded message that they are busy and they then disconnected me. I am presently seeking a new carrier. Very frustrating.

NOT GOOD! 2.5 hrs on the phone with them today. Disconnected twice. How many times do I need to give them my IMEI number? I entered about 15 different codes that they had me type, at least 15 numbers each. One lady could not understand me and had to repeat my numbers and address multiple times. I bought a new phone online from Tracfone and haven't been able to use it yet. India has nice people, but not good when you are trying to understand each other. They tried to fix my problem on many levels, hence the 2.5 hours, but tried the same fix multiple times (ie. turn off the phone and back on again) If it didn't work the first 14 times, what makes you think it is going to work now. Very disappointing. Will not use again.

The secret to getting service with Tracfone is to call the corporate office 800-876-5753, hours 8-8 weekdays. My phone died earlier this year, they sent me a replacement but it took a call to this number (furnished by a CS person who couldn't fix the problems) to get it working correctly and existing minutes transferred after two SIM cards and change to new phone number and back to original phone number. Since I buy one year at a time, I recently had to call them again to ask if my original double minutes for life plan could be transfered to the new phone, which was completed sucessfully. The corporate office reps speak clearly and have the knowledge (and the authority) to fix problems. Earlier this year I would have given them a 1, now I give them a 3.

We’ve been Tracfone users for over 6 years and even ported our landline over the Tracfone. We’re light phone users so Tracfone makes the best sense for us, financially. We recently upgraded to 2 new CDMA phones with MMS and Mobile Web access and have begun to use Airtime minutes more rapidly. But with the free Double Minutes for the Life of the Phone cards that came with the phones, we can freely browse Airtime without busting the budget. We’ve bumped heads with the 1-800 customer service number a couple of times during the past 6 years while upgrading to newer phones, but when all was said and done, they got the job done.

We've had Tracfone for years and I'm very happy with the service. We are basic cell phone people, so nothing fancy is needed, nor missed. I love my little no-frills Motorola, which has been reliable for at least the 5 years I've had it. We have 5 Tracfones in the family and are still better off than having a cellphone monthly plan. I'm considering upgrading to the W376g for the camera function, however, the last post has me thinking about that one. My son does have the W376g, recently purchased this week. I tried to send a photo via email and the phone couldn't acquire a network, and I was deducted minutes, even though the network connection failed. I'm going to call CS about that issue. The 376 has a lot of features, although some are disabled from being fully functional-Bluetooth-no USB transfer, but it is still worth the double minutes for life, email capability (if fixed), and handy camera for emergencies. Tracfone has the best prepaid rates over the other prepays, so I'm still a happy customer with them for about 13 years.

I would suggest that since so many people are having problems with this company and customer service, that you get one person on a central site to come up with an affidavite form online. Get everyone that has had problems with the phones and service to sign the form to compile a list. Make sure that you include the phone model and serial number, and the amount of money that you lost. Present this to the states attorny's office and file charges in a class action suite. They will do all of the ground work to track the company officials and bring them to court on your behalf. I will check this post from timre to time to see if you all agree, and if you would agree to do this, I will start the info process and get the ball rolling. There should be no fees with the exception of maybe filing fees which should ammount to next to nothing, so let me know. Maybe working together we can resolve this situation.

I bought a LG TracFone that came with double minutes for the life of the phone after 3 phone call, 3 e-mails I still don't have all my minutes. I transfered 72 minutes from my old phone with the phone number & I should have gotten 130 minutes more I got 115 minutes. After the first e-mail that stated that I had all of my minutes. I did ask if they could add because 120 + 72 does not make 115 minutes. Then today 7 days after I bought the phone they added another 90 minutes. I am still short 15 minutes. So was buying the phone with double minutes a good deal as of today NO! If it takes over 5 phone & e-mails to get your minutes who has the time. The telephone service desk is very difficult to use these people do not speak ENGLISH nor will they tell you where they are located not even the USA.

Great coverage, even in rural areas; very inexpensive calling and texting for the casual user. I pay $0.10/minute after purchase of the double-minutes-for-life and the 400-minute card. Texts are 0.3 units for incoming and outgoing. The Motorola C139 (perhaps no longer available) is rugged with long battery life, even after five years of use. Rubber strips on the side of this bar phone give good grip while walking. For the basic-level wireless user, Tracfone is highly recommended. I have never had to call customer service, though.

I had to call tracphone and agree with the rest who said that their customer service is the WORST! That said however, I bought 2 tracphones for my neighor's kids who do my yard and other chores because they didn't have a home phone! With their parents' permission, of course! They always want more minutes so I pay now in phone cards–and it's been working out great! Doing it this way for over a year now. The phone was free with the purchase of a 1 year card, and it came with ‘double minutes for life' and by using a code, got an extra 250 minutes, for a total of 1260 minutes for $99 — not a bad deal at all! So yeah, their customer service MAY suck, but only had to call them once, and the language barriers were HORRIFIC, but actually, they resolved my particular problem in less than 20 minutes, so it wasn't THAT bad.

My mother who is in her 70's, accidently purchased a double your minutes card instead of actually buying minutes. We already have double minutes for life. She attempted to exchange it within minutes but was told by the manager of Walgreens it had to be handled by Tracfone. When I called Tracfone, the first problem we encountered was not being able to understand the person supplying customer service. Obviously Tracfone outsources to avoid paying fair wages here in the U.S. The second problem was the fact that even though my mother paid $49.99 for the card she purchased, they were only willing to credit us 180 minutes. That's not even half of what we should have received. They also did not give us double the 180 minutes which we should have received because we have double for life…any card purchased would have been automatically doubled. And lastly…I was put on hold a total of five times during the call and the total call length was 24 minutes long…these minutes were deducted from out Tracfone. Customer service should be a free call especially when you have to keep asking the representative to repeat themselves because I can't understand broken english, and they continuously put you on hold. We have been loyal customers for over two years and have spent THOUSANDS of dollars on airtime. As soon as these 180 minutes are gone…so am I. Tracfone blows.

I have had Tracfone for several years. I have always had trouble with customer service, but liked the no contract aspect of the phone. Now customer service has gone from bad to ‘the worst'. They don't care about the customer and seem to be in the business of making a profit by cheating customers. An attempt at problem resolution results in spending HOURS on the phone with non-English speaking reps on horrible connections and still getting no satisfaction. I am sorry to say that I have recommended Tracfone to friends and family. I would NOT RECOMMEND Tracfone to anyone. What appears to be cost effective up front actually costs you more in the long run after they finish cheating you.

Calling to activate the phone didn't work for some reason but I was able to activate it in minutes over the internet once I got off work. The little phone I got is cheap but works really well and their coverage seems to be pretty good where I live (where even big carriers seem to have issues). Buying small quantities of minutes seems expensive but for now I have a phone that works good for not a lot of money so I am happy. I may consider switching to TracFone in the future as I might actually save a few pennies. I will add another long term review if my experience differs from my first day of service with TracFone.

Avoid this company like the plague.Their customer service, air service, and phones are just terrible.Half the time you can't call our home number while IN the home. Then even with the sound turned up to its highest voices are faint.I've had this company for almost 2 years but,..It has gotten worse over the past yearand when you call for service it is extremely hard to understand their accents. We must stop outsourcing everything and keep Americans working here.So we pay a few dollars extra, its worth all the aggravation you get when dealing with foreigners. I give them NO stars

This is by far the worst product I have ever purchased in my life. The phone worked for 1 day and then the nightmare begun. To sum it up, 9 phone calls to tech support and 6 hours later they could not get a person knowledgeable enough to make it work. First, they decided to cancel my existing phone number. Then they proceeded to assigning a different number. Then they mailed me a new SIM card. Then they re assigned my original number. The phone still does not work. I spoke with 2 different supervisors and it seems they have a script in front of them with the most stupid questions imaginable where thinking and common sense are prohibited from being used.Do not waste your time with this horrible service (or lack of).I gave it 1 star because I'm not able to give it -5 (minus) five stars.Like I told the last supervisor ‘I'm not trying to launch a rocket to the moon; I'm simply trying to get a phone to work and you people can't even do that.'Horrible!!

I have a tracfone. NOT any use!!!!! I would like to speak to someone who speaks ENGLISH! I would also like to see a display of call history. Not avaliable! No suprise there. Sometimes I cant place a call to my house even when turning in the driveway. Now that is sad. This is the worst thing I have ever come in contact with. NO sooner than I get some things worked out with my credit, I WILL change BACK to my original phone carrier and throw this useless piece of JUNK away!!!!! I only rated this 1 star because there is no 0 stars.

Absolutely terrible. If the cellular service works at all, you're lucky. The so called, ‘customer service' is the absolutely worst part. It is utterly asinine. The representatives are rude, and very hard to understand, if you can understand them at all. Very poor experience, and I have thus canceled my service indefinitely.

I agree with the people who wanted to give TracFone a 0 star rating.I have had TracFone for approximately 5 years and I haven't had a problem until now. I had an older flip phone and I wanted to upgrade to the W376g flip phone with a camera and web access. I cannot receive or make phone calls from my home. I contacted CS on 9/16 and the person I spoke with took all my information (serial#, phone#, etc). They told me that if I didn't hear back from them by the 19th to give them a call back. I didn't hear from them so I called them. Spoke to Oscar(?)and he told me that my SIM card was not compatible with my home calling area. He said that he would send out a SIM card that would work in my area and I should receive it in about 7 business days. He gave me direction# to reference when I received it. I'm very impatient so I called after 6 business days (9/29) and I was told that the direction# I was given was supposed to be a tracking# for FedEx. I work for a company that uses FedEx and I know that the 8 digit number they gave me was not a tracking#. They also told me that I would receive my SIM card in 3-5 days and that I could call back the next day and get a tracking#. Called on 9/30 and I was told that there was nothing in the system for me to get a SIM card sent to me. Demanded to speak to a supervisor. Spoke to France. He spoke to the SIM card department. Took all my info again (3rd time). France told me he was going to escalate my issue. Said it would take 24 hours to program my new SIM card and that I could call on 10/1 to get a tracking#. Called on 10/1 during my lunch. Couldn't get through because there were so many calls. The person I spoke with said to call back later and tell whomever I spoke with to look for the interaction with my ticket number. Called at 6:50pm and spoke to Davon. He told me that there was incorrect information in my account and that is why I haven't received my SIM card yet. I told him that wasn't possible since everytime I called I not only gave them my information, but I also spelled it out. I was then transferred to supervisor, Shyrai. She apologized for all the problems and checked to make sure that the SIM card they would be sending would not only work at my house but also where I work and at my in-laws. She said she was going to expedite the shipment and have it sent priority which would be 24-48 business hours. She gave me a new ticket# for the SIM card. She also told me that I would probably need to get a new phone number which ticked me off, but I figured if that will solve my problem, fine. She told me she would send me an e-mail with the tracking number and it would also appear on the website when I entered the new ticket#. I checked my e-mail this morning and nothing. I went to the website and all it tells me is that I should receive my SIM card in 3-5 days. I immediately tried to call but their message said their hours didn't start until 9:00am. I called back on my lunch and spoke to Tiffany. She told me that I got the wrong information from the supervisor. Delivery should be 3-5 days not 1-2 days. She kept trying to tell me that a tracking number would not be available until the package was delivered. I told her that was impossible because whether you ship UPS or FedEx you get a tracking number when you go to ship it. She kept repeating that she couldn't get the tracking number until it was delivered and it hasn't been delivered yet. She slipped up once and said that my SIM card hasn't been shipped yet. When I mentioned to her that she said shipped instead of delived she apologized because she used the wrong word and she meant delivered. I told her to transfer me to a supervisor. Spoke to Olive who did confirm that after all this time my SIM card was in fact not shipped yet. She told me she would re-escalate my ticket#. Supposedly TracFone will call me with the tracking#. I am calling them tomorrow in the afternoon if I don't hear from them.If anybody ever asks me what I think of TracFone, I will tell them that as long as you plan on keeping the phone you first get, you shouldn't have any problems.Sorry for the long tirade.

I own two Trac phones, but never again. For starters, if you need assistance, you are connected to someone in either South America or the Phillipines. (4 times for me) They speak very poor English and the call center is extremely noisy, making the conversation very difficult to hear. I was on the phone twice, 35+ minutes each time to resolve a simple issue. Serious language barrier (although the reps were very polite). The major reason I will not purchase another Trac Phone is because they are outsourcing American jobs. During this serious economic difficult time for many Americans, why is American money going to pay for jobs in foreign countries??? My American hard earned dollars will stay in America as much as possible, to support other Americans. I know of many other people who are following suit with all of their purchases.Another issue, when you call to voice your concerns, you cannot reach anyone in the executive offices. The executive branch is disconnected from their consumers or perhaps they just don't really care??

They are HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! Do not buy Tracfones or you WILL eventually end up like me!! The Tracfone I bought 6 months ago is breaking down, so I bought a new one in the beginning of September and wanted to transfer my almost 2,000 Mins and my phone #… I was immediately told by customer service that I needed a new sim card (not the one it came with the new phone) in order to activate the new phone and transfer the information… After 6 days no sim card, so I call again, I am told that it was returned because they forgot to address the package! They would send me another. 5 days later no sim card, I call again.. they never sent the sim card back out! But I was given a code to supposedly get 20 minutes extra for waiting so long…4 days later I get the sim card call tracfone and was immediately told that I needed yet ANOTHER SIM CARD!!! I demanded to speak with a supervisor, she refused to let me speak to one, after 25 minutes of insisting that she put me on with her superior she connected me to a series of 3 different men who all proceeded to mumble in an attempt to sound like only one person…. over the course of 2 and a half hours the three of them got my sim card registered and phone number switched to the new phone HOWEVER transferring my minutes from the old phone to the new he shorted me Hundreds of minutes! He starts reading that ‘thank you for staying with tracfone' script and I asked ‘what about the rest of my minutes?' He says ‘you have 1500' I said ‘yes but what about the Rest?' he starts reading from the script again and I asked ‘could you Please answer my question?' ‘Oh you have a question?' Exasperated, I repeated ‘what about the rest of my minutes, Not to mention the 20 more that that I was promised the last time I called and the 10 that are supposed to come with the new phone!' Then I gave him the code I was given. He said ‘well, it's not a new phone the 10 minutes are only to make sure that it works…' I said ‘what? It was a new phone that DIDN't Work! I activated it today and somehow it only has 48 service days on it!! DO you really think that this is the way to treat people? I had been a loyal customer for over 3 years I paid for those minutes and I want each and every one back!'Then he proceeded to pretend like he no longer understood the english language and hung up on me. I NEVER got the 480 Minutes that was supposed to be transferred from the other phone and I can guarantee I'd rather start fresh with a more expensive company than ever deal with tracfone or it's sister company Net10 again!! AVOID TRACFONE AT ALL COSTS!!

Tracfone is the most horrible company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I have long since canceled the service, and have even refused to get another cell phone from any company, as most of the customer service reviews are not much better. But I'm sure that there's something better than Tracfone.Following is the body of the letter I sent them after my customer service nightmare:In December of 2006, I purchased two new Tracfone brand cell phones from a Target store. In March 2007, I activated them, purchasing 400 minutes for each phone, and subsequently added 200 additional minutes via a promotional offer. Following activation, my minutes total per phone was 600.I was very happy with the phones and service, until August 2007. I placed a one minute call from my Tracfone to my husband’s Tracfone and, instead of deducting a single minute per phone, 140 minutes were deducted from each phone. In a single call, we had lost 280 minutes in total. I must emphasize that I turned my phone off following this call, as did my husband, so it was a logistical impossibility that our devices were connected for the incurred time span.At the time the calls were made, my phone displayed 250 minutes, my husband’s displayed 140 minutes. Following the call, my phone displayed 110 minutes, my husband’s displayed 0 minutes. My initial call to your customer service center was aggravating, to say the least. The first person I spoke with informed me that there could have been no mistake on Tracfone’s part. My husband and I have both worked with Motorola and cell phone software and know for a fact that this type of error can occur. At that point I asked to speak to a supervisor. After 60 minutes on the phone with this gentleman (Andre), he determined that the phones were defective and would need to be exchanged. He also noted that 140 minutes had been deducted from each phone and, after removing all minutes from them, instructed us to return them after receiving our replacements. When the new phones arrived I began what I consider to be the single worst customer service experience of my life. When I called to have the phones activated, after a 15-minute wait, the representative with whom I spoke (April) refunded only 110 minutes to my phone, as opposed to the original 250 minutes. Apparently the first representative (Andre) failed to accurately report that my phone originally carried a balance of 250 minutes. She assured me that, once we’d ended the call, she would add the remaining 140 minutes. This process took 40 minutes, after which your telephone system disconnected me. Although she had my phone number, she did not call me back, nor did she add the remaining minutes, as she’d promised.I was so angry that I had to wait a few days to call back and try again. I AGAIN waited 10 minutes to get a live representative, after which it required a 70-minute phone call to verify that the correct number of minutes had been assigned to the phones. This was not because the process was so tedious; rather it was due to your customer service department’s distrust of my relaying of the facts of the matter, which I was required to repeat over and over again for 70 minutes. What made it much more difficult was that while your service representatives speak English relatively well, they can barely understand it. Once that problem was resolved, we noticed that we had been sent refurbished phones. We bought new ones, and four months later we are the owners of used phones, which will not hold a charge for more that a day or two. I am very angry that we returned new phones with new batteries and they were replaced with less than satisfactory products. To add insult to injury, this result took a great deal of my time, during most of which I was directly branded a liar. What started out as a pleasant experience has since turned into the opposite. I am reminded of that every day when I must recharge these shoddy replacements. If you wish to retain us as customers, please send us new batteries for our phones. Otherwise, when the minutes run out I will not have enough faith in your company to continue using your service, and I will simply toss them in the recycling bin and establish a relationship with another wireless carrier. As it is ten times as difficult to acquire a new customer as it is to retain an existing one, I would suggest that you direct your efforts towards maintaining two you currently have. Otherwise, I’m afraid my continued patronage will have to move to one your competitors. And, hopefully they will have a more fully formed view of what customer service really means.

Had the phone for over 7 years and have not had any problem persay. The only problem I have is when I try to add minutes to my phone via the internet.I called customer service, and was on the phone for about 10 minutes the first time and after that, it would take several calls and minutes (about 9) before I could finally get my new yearly card info corrected to add the minutes.I would highly recommend this phone if you only need for emergencies or short phone calls. This is especially good for teen and tween phones.

Horrible Customer Service and equipment. I had two phones with Verizon for my children for emergencies. With the monthly fees and family plan, I figured I could save money with pre-paid since the usage was relatively low. I ordered 2 phones from Tracfone's website and when they arrived, attempted to port the old numbers. One port appeared to be in process (up to 10 days with no phone service), the other ‘new' phone had a bad SIM card. After spending over an hour with someone from South America, they sent out a new SIM card. All in all, over 5 hours on the phone, one phone which had ported and showed the correct end date and minutes all of a sudden showed 01/01/2001 and 0 minutes, 5 SIM cards, 3 phones, 1 phone that never was shipped…..I packed them up, shipped them back with their pre-paid return envelope, and am now fighting for a refund. Also, once the phone showed no minutes, I spent an hour with someone there who was supposed to ship a new phone and made notation to have the minutes transferred, never sent the replacement phone so that phone was never sent out.Junk phones, English as a 2nd language, bad connections with their call center—you decide if it is worth it. I went back to Verizon, had the numbers ported within 20 minutes. Tracfone said it was going to take up to 10 days to port.

Beware…. My son purchased a tracfone a few months ago. He opted for the $50 samsung slider and purchased a double minutes card for another $50. After adding in a minutes card he was up to $150 dollars. Whithin two weeks the phone was deactivated despite having more than 100 minutes and an expiration date of December 12, 2020. When I called their customer service I was quite dismayed to find that English was clearly not their first language. Having spent hours on the phone with customer service and being transferred multiple times (most customer service reps broken English was not even understandable) I was finally told to call back as the department I needed had closed. For three days this went on until I finally was told the SIM card was defective and would be sent a new one. The new SIM card arrived two weeks later. The phone seemed fine for about a month and was suddenly deactivated again. After several hours and two days on the phone with customer service AGAIN, I was told the phone was not deducting enough minutes and that we must purchase a new phone. They REFUSED to replace or repair their defective merchandise. If you are thinking of purchasing a tracfone, I highly recommend you think twice.

I had to agree to change my number before they would get my phone working again. This includes 2 replacement sim cards as well. After I was promised an additional 100 minutes for my patience and aggravation along with an interaction# I got 10 minutes and a 6 mo. extension on my expiration date which is meaningless to me as it was already into the middle of next year. After 3 phone calls and being on hold for 1 hour each time, we MAY have the problem fixed. First, off you can understand their english, they lie and they will give you the run around. I always pray when I encounter problems with my phone that I don't have to call Customer service. You also have to pick your phones carefully. Some are good, and some suck. With the double minute plan you can get some really good minutes, however, for $50 you can get 1,000 minutes with Virgin Mobile and unlimited with Boost….so I'm actually thinking about going with Virgin, since the phone selection for Boost are very limited and they are too expensive.

I have had service with Tracfone for over 5 years, and I am pleased with it. David's review (2009/07/07, see below) is detailed and complete. I would add that customer service has always been good to me. Problems were solved in one phone call. Their customer service people do have an accent, but it is not bad: I can understand them and they can understand me. Also, if your phone gets stolen or lost, be sure to contact TracFone IMMEDIATELY to have them cancel that account and send you a new phone — so no one steals the minutes that you already paid for. Make sure you have the phone's serial number written down somewhere . . .Tracfone is a good phone and a good deal for pre-paid wireless: especially if you double your minutes and buy minutes in bulk.

First off, Kudos to David on his very detailed, accurate and good humored review below!I have personally used Tracfone for about 4 yrs now and have had absolutely NO problems what so ever! Infact, I love this service.. It's so easy and straight forward to use, not to mention very low cost. I spend maybe $20 every 3 months for my service.. I'm not a big ‘talker' but am a HUGE ‘texter'.. Infact my current expiration date isn't until next year and I still have over 1100 mins to use!I agree that the language barrier with Customer Service is a bit much, but they do try very hard to please you and make things right.I've upgraded my phones a few times, transferred my number and got a free SIM card from them.. all with no hassles or problems.. except maybe me saying, ‘pardon me?' cuz I didn't understand what was said. The ONLY reason I'm looking into different ‘prepaid' service plans, is becuz I text so much, I want a phone with a QWERTY board.. Tracfone does not supply those unfortunately. But after reading all the reviews and complaints on other providers.. I'm really nervous about switching, when I have such a great provider now.But then again, I read all the bad reviews about Tracfone, that I have never experienced with this company and figure there's just bad experiences anywhere you go and people that like to complain.So.. I guess I'll keep looking around for a prepaid Qwerty phone, but keep my service thru Tracfone just incase I do end up not being happy with another provider.Overall.. Out of all the providers I've had in the past.. Tracfone is THEE best!!!

I have been using tracphone now for about 5 years and it has served me well with no major issues. Adding airtime is a snap. takes about a minute – if you do it correctly

I was (key word WAS) a tracfone customer. Bought the phone, used less than to minutes, had over 1,000 minutes & the phone was stolen. Reported to police, called tracfone, reported stolen & was assured the phone was de-activated & ‘when you get a new phone just call & all minutes will be put on new phone'. Went several weeks, got a new phone & called customer service. Ha Ha Ha. It took 6 seperate days, an hour each day, talking to idiots who DON'T know what they are doing to finally get to a supervisor who tells me the day after I reported it lost, ‘I' called & re-activated it. It wasn't lost, it was stolen & the thief re-activated it used all the minutes. Their reply was Oh Well, sorry. Nothing we can do for you. It did NO good to explain that I reported to stolen, that I did not re-activate it. The best they could do was tell me of their specials ir I wnated to hear them. I told them to delete me from their system, de-activate andy info & I was going out to the parking lot, put their stupid phone under one on my tires and drive over it a dozen times.THE END, NEVER AGAIN WITH THIS COMPANY. Some friends have never had any problems. To them I say ‘Good for you, but when it happens, run like hell.GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH

I would give tracfone a 0 star. Pieceof crap. I just put 200 min. on now the phone won't charge.STAY A WAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!GO TO AT&T OR SOMEWHERE ELSE. NOT HERE. Maybe if the people would learn how to speak English, not broken English. Like I stated. PIECE OF CRAP.

You get what you pay for! I've been a tracfone customer for 4 years. I have finally had it with their lousy customer service. Every time I have replaced a phone, or tried to add minutes I have made repeated phone calls to get things in order. I have been able to thole the agony of going through the process because it is normally once a year when I purchase a year long card. Tech help is from varying countries, which is not the problem. They need to hire only people with clear diction, and obviously have found some individuals. They could probably avoid a lot of abuse if they weren't so rigid in reading their scripts. They don't give refunds, so if you aren't willing to spend hours on your home phone trying to get it straight, forget it. I've tried using their web-site, but it is only good for purchasing air time or new phones. God forbid that you try to use it for tech help or activation. If last go around had been successful then I'd probably have bought another phone from them as tracfone full-fills my limited cell phone needs.

Have used tracphone for years now, just a few problems. One is they can call your phone and use your time for their purposes:soliciting. They messed up my landlines today to supposedly update my codes with a non-English speaking person. I could barely understand him. I tried to complain using their contact site, but it didn't work. I'm really angry about struggling with the local phone company trying to get my home phones to work. As soon as I talked to the foreigner, and changed the codes, everything worked again. This is ridiculous.

My son and I have had tracfones for approx. the last year, and I can honestly say we have never had a problem with them. As a matter of fact, my son lost 2 of his phones, and when we bought new ones, tracfone transferred his same number, as well as the minutes he had left on both phones with no problems, which I was super happy about! Although it is sometimes hard to understand the CS people, they have always been very polite and helpful. I always purchase our minutes over the internet…by doing so, after selecting however many minutes you want, you can also purchase extra minutes at a discount, so I usually add those on, as well. I also like how I get to use promotional codes from their calendar (included when you buy the phone) for even more minutes. My son would prefer a ‘fancier' phone and plan (he's 18), but since neither one of us has had a problem with calls or texts, he's ‘OK' with it, and I'm perfectly happy with it!!

3+ year trac-phone user – rarely any issues, and all have been resolved w/ one call to customer service. Highly recommended. By the way, I purchased the double minutes option and am very pleased w/ it all.

Tracfone called me with an offer that if I purchased a one year card I would get 200 bonus minutes. But I bought the only one year card at the store and it was for 800 minutes. So I paid about 30-40 dollars more than expected. Then Tracfone won't honor the 200 bonus minutes because I didn't buy the smaller package. That was misleading and trickery as usual. I am done with Tracfone. Lets see you publish the truth. DO NOT BUY TRACFONE

I must add my 2 cents worth, I read a lot of the above and do not dispute any of them but I have had tracfone for about 10 years and have encountered 0 problems with either the phone or the service. I will agree that the customer service reps are sometimes hard to understand but that seems to be the norm no matter whos customer service you are dealing with.Tracfone is hard to beat as an option for cheap moblie service.
