Mojo Mobile Prepaid Cell Phone Service

Editor Rating
Overview

Mojo Mobile, based in Haiwatha, Iowa, was founded in late 2005 as a division of Ready Mobile.

It is designed for frequent callers, as it offers a free nights and weekends feature, a rarity among prepaid services.

Pros: Free nights and weekends are a huge plus. Ten minutes of free airtime upon activation is a nice bonus, too.

Cons: Mojo Mobile has one of the shortest minute expiration periods we've ever seen in the prepaid industry. The call plans are also very expensive (20 dollars gets you just 80 minutes), and never fall below 15 cents per minute. Minutes expire very quickly, making it more sensible to purchase in lower denominations, which means an even higher per-minute rate. No transactions can be made online.

Detailed Provider Information

Plans: Mojo Mobile has five denominations of top-up cards. The 30 minute card costs 10 dollars, the 80 minute card costs 20 dollars, the 140 minute card costs 30 dollars, the 250 minute card costs 50 dollars, and the 500 minute card is 75 dollars. All top-up cards include unlimited nights and weekends.  You must have peak minutes available in order to use free nights and weekends.

Customer Service: A toll free number is available for customer service. However, non-subscribers will find it very difficult to reach a live representative.

Credit Check: None

Contract: None

Payment Options: Mojo prepaid refills are available for purchase at Mojo Mobile retail outlets, and must be activated via phone.

Text and Picture Messaging: Text messaging is 10 cents per message, both outgoing and incoming. Free nights and weekends do not apply to text messages. Picture messaging is not available at this time.

Data Plans: Mojo Mobile does not offer mobile web access.

Downloadables: Mojo Mobile does not offer download services at this time.

International Calling: International calling is available to select countries. Calls to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands carry a charge of 4 cents per minute plus airtime.

Roaming Charges: Additional charges apply with Mojo Mobile prepaid for calls made outside of Mojo's national network, which is borrowed from Sprint. However, because we weren't able to reach customer service, we were not able to confirm the actual cost of roaming minutes.

Calling Features: Mojo Mobile offers call waiting, caller ID, and voicemail with all service plans at no extra charge.

Nationwide Long Distance: Mojo prepaid offers long distance to any location nationwide at no extra charge. Domestic long distance calls are treated as normal calls, except for calls to Hawaii and Alaska which cost 4 cents per minute plus airtime.

Earliest Minute Expiration: Mojo prepaid minutes expire on an incremental scale, depending on the airtime card you buy. This ranges from seven days to 30 days after activation.

Have had loss of service causeing me to remove battery and reboot phone to get it back.
Also have to be carefull when makeing calls as I have found i will go into roaming where i should not be again causeing me to reboot phone to reset services.
As well with lack of support makes this phone more trouble then it is worth.

In my opinion this phone steals minutes from the consumer, when you call to tell them about your problems the operators are very rude and don't seem to care that you are unhappy. The information in the package tells you that calling thier 800 number is free. But it isn't and they refuse to credit you those minutes waiting on hold for them. Voicemail is not automatic as you would expect, but has to be activated, they say in 24hrs, it has now been a wek and no voicemail, ask for a supervisor they have to call you back, but never do. I am sending in my refund for the phone and telling them to kiss where the sun don't shine

I feel very upset and pissed for the fact I can't check minutes or speak with customer service. Its too costly for the minutes. Virgin Mobile gives you 600 minutes and unlimited nights + weekends and your minutes are free at 7pm only for 60 bucks compared to Mojo Mobile you pay 75 bucks for 500 minutes it's very frustrating but I needed a phone I had no choice. If you buy this phone Id say this is for people who don't talk alot then you get your money worth but if you are on the phone like me 24-7 then it's a rip off...word.

I don't know where to get my minutes from ....they have nothing in Jersey..it's stupid.

had very little coverage in my area (none at my house) phone didnt come with anything (couldnt get online or download ring tones or even put songs on it threw my computer)even though the phone itself came with the functions to do it..free nights and weekends were nice though and the camera on the phone was pretty good

i own a mojo mobile phone and recently ran out of minutes i purchased a new 50.00 card for it and when i went to reload my phone it said my account was invalid . i tried to call customer service someone finally came on the line after 15 minutes asked me to hold i waited an additional 45 minutes then they put you through to a recording that says the number is no longer in service if you dial *2 or *611 from your phone it gives you sprint customer service and they are not able to help you i would not recomend buying this phone now i am out 50 for the card and 50 for the phone neither of which is refundable and by the way there are for # on this company and all of them say the same thing

Customer service sucks. Did I mention customer service sucks. Have been on hold for over 4 hours and am still listening to lousy elevator music.
You really cant complain about customer service cause there isn't any.

Scooter

Mojo is a coplete ripoff. They sell sprint refurbs as new without disclosure. They also charge 3 minutes for each call that lasts under a minute. RUN AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS !
